That's one helluva way to shift house Seth.

Glad it all worked out in the end. That was a pretty long day you had!

I hate moving, I mean really hate.

Last time I had to include some 35-40 boxes of service manuals the drove up the tonnage significantly and since it all had to go into storage for a few months we hired movers.

Which turned out to be really important when Jenn went into labor in the wee hours the morning they were showing up.

Man I hope we stay here a good long while.

The move has been an adventure.

And, so it apparently was, with B****t near the least of it.

**** I had hoped to hit the road at 2 pm but one of us had been less than forthcoming about the volume of 70s-era hippy wear and breakable kitchen heirlooms that had not yet been boxed.

And, the guilty party was likely unfazed.   :thewife:

****

I changed the tire at 4am, excavating the spare from under the temperate rain forest in the back of the car -- Gail's horticultural pets.

The vid would go viral on y/t, especially if accompanied by audio.

****

So my faith in humanity, or at least kids in this farming community, is restored and we're settling in happily.

Best,

Bill

When I were a lad and my Dad was in the Navy, and we had to move, the Navy moved us.

A crew and a truck would show up, and in 45 minutes the house was empty and the truck on its way.

By the time we got to the new house, it was already moved in and set up.   A couple of times my Mom overlooked an ashtray in the old house, and there it would be in the new house, with the ashes and butts still in it.

My brother and sister and I helped each other move ONCE (last in 1988).   Since then, any of us that have to move just whistle up a crew, sit back, and let them work.    A strong-backed crew who has the equipment and knows what they're doing can move you 10 times as efficiently as you can move yourself.   At our ages (anything over 30), it makes no sense to be sweating a washing machine up the basement steps with a borrowed handtruck, or knocking holes in the walls trying to get a big sofa into the new den ...

I cut my own wood, grow my own vegetables, work on my own bikes, plow my own driveway, haul my own trash, paint my own buildings, build my own sheds.   Those all make good sense to me, and are a satisfying way to save money and be self-reliant.

Moving from house to house does NOT fit into that picture for me!!

We moved a few times while I was in the Army.  We did one of those moves ourselves.  After retiring from Army we did one move ourselves as well.  We've also moved other folks.  Not a huge deal if you are younger (under 50 :)  ) and healthy.  But, still a PITA.  Even when the move is paid for it isn't easy.  The movers will put things in a room and locate furniture, somewhat.  We always unpacked our own stuff.  Much easier than having the movers choose where to put things.

We just made our "final move".  Easy this time since it was into our RV.  Now we change locations all the time, but, everything is in the trailer :)

Lannis, I'm curious about those painless Navy moves. Was it from one on-base house to a similar on-base house?  That would certainly help the movers know where everything belongs.

I was an Air Force brat when young and like Lannis moves then were no biggee.  But as an adult I've always moved myself and having owned 7 houses in Oregon, Washington, California, now Arizona I'm too cheap to pay the exorbitant price of having someone else move me.  Plus I helped my parents move from soCal to norCal once.  THAT move just about killed me.   As did my last move to here.  No more moves for me.  My back is SHOT!   Maybe the fact me and 3 other guys while going to college loaded 2 semi trailers a day part time for UPS 5 days a week for years w/no back supports didn't help.  :boxing:   Live and learn.

Lannis, I'm curious about those painless Navy moves. Was it from one on-base house to a similar on-base house?  That would certainly help the movers know where everything belongs.

My Mom was a tough grader on movers, and I can remember her telling people how well the contractors for the Navy did.

Let's see ... first house was a 2BR small ranch in what is now the center median of I-95 near Powder Mill Road in Beltsville MD.   From there to an apartment in a WWII converted barracks on Kodiak Island, then to a new 3BR split-level in Carter Lake, Iowa (near Offutt AFB where Dad was on the Navy JCOS staff), then to a 2BR small frame house off Tidewater Road near Little Creek in Norfolk, then to a 4BR 2 story farmhouse near Appomattox.

Very different houses, but the boxes were all marked "which room", and my Mom used to put signs up on the rooms for the movers ("Bedroom #2", for example).   Anyway, after seeing that, and being involved in several moves for other people, I would no more move my own house than I would try to make my own boots .... just not worth it, and the product they provide is better than yours ... !
