Anti Fog Mix. (Wayne Orwig Perhaps?)
« on: May 15, 2017, 05:35:37 PM »
The good stuff (Cat Crap) out here has gone off the market and the stuff I had to get to have any at all is just rubbish.

Years ago someone, and I have a sneaking suspicion it was Wayne, had a mix that they said worked really well. My faulty memory thinks it had lemon juice, dishwash detergent and glycerine in it, but I may be mistaken.

Anyone please?

Cat Crap is still widely available in the US and on the Internet from many vendors. I'm not sure how many of them know how to label the bottom side of the package so it will reach New Zealand.

You should check with your local dive shop - good anti-fog is commonly available from them, and in your colder waters it would be popular.

Not sure it was me, but I do keep a small spray bottle with dish soap in it beside my helmet. In  the winter I use that, and a small cloth that stays somewhat saturated, to coat the inside of the shield. But by the time you polish of the smear mess, it is not great. It does help though.
Nothing works like a Fog City Fog Shield. Or the same thing in a good pinlock.

I use cat crap (red tub) on my camera lenses, and a pinlock in my helmet.  Both good products.  I've had no problem finding cat crap even in Alaska.  Like he said above -- dive shops.

I can't help but think that whoever came up with the trade names "Cat Crap" and "Dogpile" have GOT to be demented somehow, or hoping that the product will be successful despite the marketing, just to prove a point ....

A little trick I learned (for my glasses) while running a paper route when I was a kid. Spray Windex
on it and let it dry. The formula may have changed in the last 50 years diminishing its effectiveness.

There's a liquid fish bait product allegedly targeted at halibut named " Butt Juice ".
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Rain-X anti-fog works OK, but all of the ones I've used work by making the condensation spread out in a film, rather than beading up.  As Wayne said, it's not ideal.

I've heard a lot of claims about liquid baits - but it'll all come out in the wash!

Vasalene Muzz?
Something that might be worth a try is Amways lens cleaner.  It has a strong anti mist component. In fact that back when I had a go at selling the stuff a demo was done using an oven and a freezer.  Their window cleaner has a similar formula but with less anti fogging, though enough to keep a bathroom mirror clear. (these were some of their better products.)  I don't know what if any negative effect they may have on plastic though.

Some good ideas coming through thanks. Some I don't think are available out here. The dive shops are certainly worth investigation. I wonder if Vaseline could be dissolved in rubbing alcohol to thin it down a bit.

I read that uncooked potato will help with fogging screen...among other things in this post

http://dualsportalchemy.com/2013/08/tip-keeping-your-goggles-fog-free/

Anyone tried them especially the potato?
