Top Ten Guzzis

I came across this old list on the MCN site. It's from 2010, but got me thinking that I have my favorites also, and some don't show up in the article. It made me curious about what we might call top ten Guzzis seven years on. Any takers?

I'm not sure what the criteria for making the list was.  But that's just a list of late model Guzzi's.
A Top 10 would include a LeMans 1, MGS-01, Scura, 1000S etc.

This said the survey was from "Biking Britain" so that in itself is somewhat subjective and limited....(IMHO)

That's what I thought too, JJ. Some of the very best are missing! The Falcone deserves a spot; if only for longevity. I suspect that people were voting for the Guzzi that they own or owned. Any list like this without a Lemans I or a 1000SP is suspect...

Those are probably Whitworth miles per hour.  Or downhill with a brisk tail wind.  When I had mine, it topped out at 105.

TBH the eldorado following exists purely and solely in the USA in the bigger Guzzi markets they are not so common, or sought after for that matter. So basically if you were doing a top ten list yes to the original V7 Sport Eldorado maybe number 10 but its spot there is at best tenuous.

Wonder the criteria for a response?  Otherwise if it's all the models then there bikes missing from the line-up.  Should be different for U.S. polled riders.

The list is garbage, JJ, IMHO is a lot nearer the mark.

Probably some warped hidden reason behind it, or the writer knows nothing about Guzzi.

I'll defend the list to some extent. It was a survey of bikes that had been owned by the readership, hence no V8s etc.... Also it was not  a "pick your favourite Guzzi" list per se, it was a general survey on bikes and a lot of characteristics about them....so thats why the Breva 750 scored so well. It does what it says on the tin, makes no promises it can't keep. And ten or so years ago I remember an interview where the CEO of the owning group at the time said it was "the bike that saved Guzzi".

Don't think mine will do 120mph.

I did have 100mph two up and not wound all the way out, but a further20mph????? I don't think so.

But what Scotty says goes. I have had mine for 13 years and have no desire to get rid of it.

I've seen an awful lot of Le-Mans, V7s, 1000s models on the road in my time here and a few Eldos, so I'm not an expert on the history, they were available here.

I only mention those as these were the sort of vintage when I started noticing/lusting after, Guzzis.

3X was the main importer back in the day.

I agree not all, the CX-100 for example, probably a few others, but I'm going to leave it that as you are probably a lot more knowledgeable on the history than I am Tom

They don't get much love, but I think the G5s and Cal IIs were some of the best bikes Guzzi made.They didn't do anything other bikes didn't do, but they were much greater than the sum of their parts.

Graduated with a Bachelors in American History.  MSA in Administration with a side trip to Admin. law.  Stuff like the history of Moto Guzzi is a hobby as well as the forum history and MGNOC.  The large V twins are pretty much in my collection.  Mostly the sporting end.  IF the company put out a 1400 Le Mans then I would have to find the money to add to the collection.
