Finally got my yellow 97 Sport's EFI system back online!
« on: June 29, 2017, 04:02:54 PM »
The left injector on my latest 1100 purchase did not receive a pulse or signal from the ECU. I took the bike apart and checked the wiring and plugs, which were fine. Turned out that it is more than likely the ECU. I am working on another 97 1100 Sporti right now, so I pulled that ECU out and installed it in my fuel injection issue bike, and .... she fired right up with both cylinders firing as they should. I'm going to play around with the "assumed bad" ECU next week, and maybe a new chip will revive that unit again?

So here is my second yellow 1100, and I really like the way this bike turned out after I re-asseembled her. (I bought her somewhat dis-assembled from her last owner, since he started to trouble shoot the injector issue before he sold me the bike). I have a second yellow 1100, which I am currently stripping down to get her ready for the paint booth. I'm going to paint that bike in a deep gloss black. Something a little different.

The bike on the lift will be painted in black this winter. The bike on the right is the one shown above.

This is what the bike (now sitting on the lift) looked like when I bought her back in January. The picture looks better than this bike was. This is the bike which was sitting in the woods under a tarp for the last eight years. This bike had a lot of issues, but I got her going again about two month ago. She will get a cosmetic restoration this winter.

Nice

For you it's not so much of an issue, if one doesn't run Andy, you can (and do) pull parts of another, or just ride another.

You must have cornered the market now in the US on Sportis, has the Anti Trust Laws brigade contacted you yet?

I'm getting close perhaps a month or so away from starting an 1100 Sporti, I'm dreading it TBH.

I may be onto here for assistance

Thanks for the pics

John

I very much doubt a new chip will revive the ECU it will be something simple like a bad solder joint or perhaps an output transistor if it has one.
Trace the two wires that go to the injectors d identify the pins they go through then examine those and the traces they go through.

Try your ECU in the other bike, you might find it works well there.

I assume it's a P8 ECU
injector pins are 33 & 35
Don't forget it might be a coil not firing
Ignition module pins are 25 &26

Perhaps pick up a parts bike P8 and move your Map chip into it.

Fried injector driver,  so tough call..... dd the ECU simply  fail?

Or did a shorted injector burn it out?

I bought this bike with the left injector not receiving a signal from the ECU. There were no shorts or higher resistance readings or openings between the injector wires and the end of the wiring harness closest to the ECU. So, I think that it is pretty safe to assume that the issue is confined to the ECU. But, I will install this "assumed bad" ECU on the other bike, and maybe she will fire up that bike too, like stated by Kiwi_Roy earlier.

Here is a lineup of some of the 1100's I own.

I wish that I could help you with your issue, but I never had this happen on my bikes.

Per your recommendation,  :thumb: I finally had some time today to install the assumed "bad ECU" into my original ECU donor bike, and it fired the engine on both cylinders right up..... I only applied a thick coat of electrical grease onto the ECU's wire harness connector before plugging the harness into the ECU.

I'm going to switch both bikes ECU chip out with Will Creedon chips tomorrow, and I can't wait to see on how noticeable of a difference the performance chip will make versus bike # one's stock chip, and bike # two's "mystery" (not a stock chip, but also not a Will Creedon chip) performance chip.

I can't explain why, but I just love looking at this picture! I just picked her up from getting a new set of rubber mounted. I now need to figure out on why the brake light refuses to come on when I pull the front brake lever, but the foot paddle turns the brake light on perfectly.

I just needed to say....Some bikes need a new color scheme, some just need to be repainted to the original color.

Don't paint it black!!! Keep it stock!! If you want black, buy one. Not like it's you fist or second or third Sport

You are right my friend!

The yellow has grown on me, so yes, the second yellow will remain yellow too! I also just found and bought me last week a 96 Silver 1100 Spot with 11k miles on the clock.  This bike is being shipped from Maine and should arrive at my home next Friday. This will be my first silver 1100. Then all I need to find is the root-beer brown 1100, which will then complete my collection of having at least one of each color Sports!

One does not belong!

Some bikes I think were born to be a color. My Lops I feel were born to be black with white. When I needed to clean then up, I could have painted them any color I wanted. But, I felt they needed to be the way they were born.

The sports have a certain bling. Yellow on these have a bling.

Now if this was a box of parts with all the colors of the rainbow painted parts, then make it whatever color pleased you. There was not enough to tell what it may have been.

Oh, BTW, now that you own just about all the sports in the US, can you leave one or two for the rest of us??? The look is growing on me. I'm not a sport bike guy, but.......
