Hard to concentrate right now. There are about 30 WW2 Fighters roaring around as we type. :-)

Those B-1s are a bit loud. When they were stationed at McConnell AFB in Wichita I was able to witnesses several dual takeoffs with full afterburner at dusk. It is soul stirring! :thumb:

Back home in Indiana.. wrote a song about it..  left early because a really long time friend bought the farm and his service was today. If you will, raise a glass, face the west, and say "Blue skies and tailwinds, captain." He was a good guy and fellow airplane builder.
Looking back, I didn't put the PT or Spartan  in the thread.  here they are.. Staggerwings in the background.

Dusty said to show some unusual stuff.. so here's one. This is the last remaining Waco (I've forgotten the designation.. Waco is as bad as Harley.) Probably a QEC-9 softtail or something like that.. but the first Waco with the 450 hp P&W. Had machine guns, and several were sold to a south american country.. IIRC Venezuela. The Kid's sweetie Nora has flown in it.

The dinner timer is going off. Back later.

Chuck, nice Waco!
Do you know who owns the Executive (Spartan)? I flew the one that used to be based at Riverside AP Tulsa and wondered if its still airworthy. It was polished.
Thought you may have spoken to the owner.

Maybe next year.

:-)

I could find out. It's based at Poplar Grove, where the Kid runs the airframe shop. He's flown it with Kenny Morris after an annual. Kenny is also based at Poplar Grove, and is the Spartan guru. All the airworthy Execs were at OSH last year.. 7, I think.

Amazon's (no kidding) delivery drone..

Seen in the motorcycle parking area.

Here's another rare one for Dusty.  This is a prototype Luscombe single seater that was never built. A guy built it from drawings, so it is technically a replica. The Kid is checking it out.

Here's a "cardboard constellation" a wood winged Bellanca 14-13 taxiing in. Fairly rare now with the original Franklin powerplant. I had one for several years. Sweet flier.

The last of the "real" Cessnas   the 195. They were having a get together, and I counted 49. There may have been more. Talking to one of the owners, he said performance is the same is a modern 182. (!) Just depends on whether you want to maintain a big radial or not. I've flown one back in the day, and was surprised at how good it was..

The Kid has the Swift hots, so we had to check them out. Late 40s design. I've never flown one, but he says they are great. <shrug>

For someone that has never been there, the scope can't be told with pictures. There are 1400 acres that are covered with airplanes and people.
Here's a small part of the homebuilts.

Sorry, John.. I never made it to the ultralight area to see if there were any storks. <shrug>
<rant/1>To the others that were looking for rare antique airplane pix.. they mostly don't come to Oshkosh any more. After the EAA founder's son and his pin striped suit buddies took over, it became how can we make more money rather than how can we improve the convention for aircraft builders. One is to cater to the big money guys. Another is to let the general public on the flight line, and they have no clue about how delicate airplanes are on the ground. <rant/0>
So. If you want to see really kool antiques, you'll have to join the AAA and go to the national fly in at Blakesburg, Ia, or the MAAC and go to Brodhead, Wi.
Just the same, there are some wonderful experiences at OSH. One is the night airshow/fireworks/generally blowing things up.  After all, most aviators are just kids in an old man's suit..

It started sprinkling, and looking at my aviation wx ap on the phone told Dorcia it wold actually be raining in about 5 minutes. We went over and stood under the wing of this Howard..

And got some great pix of the fireworks

And my favorite of the whole week..
The "wall of fire." Those pyro guys can make some great explosions..

That's all, folks. Hope you've enjoyed.

This is a prototype Luscombe single seater that was never built. A guy built it from drawings, so it is technically a replica.

Post-war, Luscombe was owned by an Austrian who had weaseled Don L out of his company.  A guy in production (not engineering) had some kind of special relationship with the boss.  The result was this single seater, the Luscombe 10, pieced together and not well engineered. The chief test pilot flew it once, they took some photos, then he refused to fly it again.  Engineering rebelled and said that thing should be thrown away, so they did.   Sounds like a story from many engineering organizations more recently, but human nature never changes.  Hope the replica flies better than the original.

This website with photos explains it slightly differently, but that's also par for the course.  . http://taildraggersinc.com/luscombe-model-10/#.WXwV8etHaK0 The real skinny is in the Swick book on Luscombes.
