Update: new NGK caps installed yesterday, and put in about 120 miles of riding, a mix of city and highway, including sustained speeds between 65-85 mph... and she feels good! No signs of failure at this point so far. Today I'll go a little farther out and see what happens.

Cool.

Question, did you just do the caps or did you repair/replace the wires (for the compromised insulation)?

I have not replaced the wires yet, those will happen next paycheck. Boy on a budget :P
I understand that the wires are copper, 12mm, and the caps are 5K ohm... is there any other kind of spec I'm looking for when buying new ones?

Now it is ruined.
So educate me and cite your sources  why do some folks on here think dielectric is such a bad thing?

I see that you are literally citing yourself... haha. But I can appreciate that. I also found this, which weighs in on both sides of the argument.

If you knew Wayne, and had had him work with electrical issues on Guzzis with you, you'd realize you don't NEED any other sources.

He's published many a post here on WG (some now back in the archives but still searchable) on the exact reasons why dielectric grease in or near motorcycle electrical connectors is a bad idea.   So much so, that it would be less effort for you to maybe search the archives and read them than for him to type it out for the 50th time ....  :thumb:
