Posters posting without reading past posts
« on: August 12, 2017, 09:25:05 AM »
Threads get too long because posters post new posts without reading similar previous posts.

I propose a post police to  prosecute redundant posters!! :police:

(I hope no one posted this topic before but I'm too lazy to search previous posts!)

This 3rd world problem kinda reminds me of my X-wife. She always had spomeething to say but never heard a word uttered by others.  For those here who like to "contribute" for the sake of maximizing their post count or who have a wife that doesn't listen to them .......it's very therapeutic.

Hell, they ain't dot commies how are they to know about the search button OR what bike they own. I can't type fast enough to converse if such a thing was to happen.
Now all this negativity folks that were going to post won't.

perhaps we can express an etiquette rule where the poster can start with a disclaimer saying that he hasn't read all the previous posts in the thread before posting?

BTW- I didn't read all the posts in this thread before posting this.  I hope it's not redundant but I would guess few of you have read this before posting on anyway.

I agree, but you probably ask too much if you are talking about separate threads and not redundant posting in one thread.

It is annoying to see where posters have failed to read previous virtually identical posts in the same thread before tossing in their navels ... erm ... I mean opinions thinking their own profound and new.  My own are, of course, always profound and new.

OK, yes, I'm crabby.  Just started a spousal-unit "suggested"  :thewife: no-carb diet so I can pig out in Italy next month.

I didn't read all the previous posts - but I'd say that sometimes what appear to be redundant posts are actually intended as reinforcement or 'votes' in favor or against something rather than just repetition.

Dot Commies?  I don;t get out much.  Is that original? I really like it.

Not so sure about that "no carbs" in bourbon, but I'm off of that, too, for a bit, tho I think I miss bread even more.  Mebbe.

Bill

I've learned to not miss bread.

I hate it when I delete a redundant post and then see that it got re-redundantated a dozen times more as a quote.

I answered a post yesterday and by the time I got it posted the guy deleted his post. Maybe he read back farther and found his answer.

For me anyway's, the redundancy has two parts, or is like a double edge sword, or maybe like up and downs, or ins and outs. Kinda like a part A and part B, or similar to an oxymoron only different , you guy's no what I'm trying to say.

Pretty hard to have a virtual campfire without some repetition. Here comes Uncle Ed's story about the blizzard of 1983 again...

But hey, maybe some gentle reminders like "as mentioned above" or "as I stated in the opening post" or "as so-and-so mentioned on the last page."  Or maybe some more horse-beating...  :Beating_A_Dead_Hors e_by_liviu

And what may seem same to a reader may have a subtle difference to a poster... or it's just a reinforcement (as mentioned above).

Just kidding fellas , it is all good . We try to keep threads about about the same subject merged together , but we never want any member to feel like they shouldn't post because of some redundancy . Personally I wish more members would post , do you shy types hear me ?

On a slightly serious note..... Paul has brought up a good point. However, sometimes there are six ways to skin a cat, although one way could be better than the others, and another more suitable due to circumstances.
