New review of V7 III on motorcycle.com

This review of the V7 III seems to have appeared yesterday. It contains interesting comparisons to the V7 II, including dynamometer runs apparently on the same device:

Makes it seem the III is far better than the II.

BOOM - there ya go!

That's not an insignificant power gain for the little motor. It's all across the band starting by 2800 and growing the whole way up the rev range.

While still not earth shaking it's got to be a pleasant bump from the previous smallblocks.

NICE.

the bump is nice for sure especially that means the Power/Weight Ratio has now increased...which makes this little Guzzi more nimble than ever.

and...I know after a while you wouldn't use it, but I am in the boat with the site regarding to the Tachometer gripe....lol...

I like my Tach :p I like to see it go up and down...:P

For a while I was seriously considering buying a Triumph Street Twin and my mind wasn't changed after I rode the V9 and V7 II back to back last year, but after I rode the V7 III this year, I went out and bought one, it was improved that much.  I'm happy, it's a great bike.

haven't personally rode the V7iii but all my friend who did said the shifting is so smooth now as in no major clunk, they don't even know if they actually shift the gear except knowing the bike has sped up and hearing the WHIRRRRRRM of the engine lol...

not sure if that is a good thing or not lol...

Interesting  sounds like the new V73 is very close  to the motorcycle so many have been asking for.

Do the V7 III's come equipped with bluetooth capability?  I thought is was an optional accessory.

Capability comes standard, but the program is standard...

I'm starting to warm up to the V7III.  Dave at MI writes that the engine doesn't feel as torquey at low revs as the V7II but the above graphic seems to contradict that observation.   It seems to me anyone who has bought and rides one seems to really like it!!   Won't get rid of my V7II Special, but maybe a V7III stablemate?    Curious as to the ergos, the pegs look higher and the seat is lower than the V7II....with a Sargent reworked factory seat on my V7II the seat height is 32" and the ergos are perfect...

Greetings all!

I rode both the V7 II and V7 III and really didn't notice much difference in "roll-on" acceleration or smoothness. I went ahead and bought the V7 II and am very happy with it. Of course it helped my decision that my V7 II was on sale for $6600 !! (Guzzi content!)

I now have almost 1300 miles on her and am very happy. Valve checks are as easy as my 2 previous Cali's and I do appreciate not having to drop the sump to change the oil filter!

Overall I think the V7 series is a very capable platform for whatever you want it to do, from touring to canyon carving. My V7 II is a blast in the twisties.

ride safe and often,

I will admit that the Concours 1400 power was intoxicating, but these V7s are fun and you can't use all that power on tight twisty roads anyway.  Variety is the spice of life.  I find Supersport bikes to be boring when riding the public roads because they are way more capable than the law allows.  Doesn't take much skill to ride an SS bike at 5 mph over the speed limit.

Not exactly on point, but I note that the byline on the review is one Ryan Burns. From the context, I conclude that he is the son of the (in)famous John Burns, long-time journo with the major Moto-mags, now also with motorcycle.com. Realizing this kind of stunned me, as I recall JB referring to his newborn son as "the splooge" in articles now decades old. How it does fly....

Can anyone comment on the V9 Roamer vs V7 III Stone?
Didn't yet get my bike and am still a newbie so hopefully I get a pass on questions like this.
Thanks.

Another lame "if only it had more horsepower" review.  I think if it made 500 HP and got 175 MPG some would still write a bad review.  At least I am glad to see Guzzi getting some press.

Actually a good question. I'd also be interested in comparisons by those who have experience with both.

Yep typical.  They think every motorcyclist wants their motorcycle to perform like a Ferrari or high end Porsche.  My KLR 650 was one of my most memorable motorcycles because of the places I could ride it and never felt a need for more power.  When I had my Concours 1400 I bought it because of the size for a comfortable sport touring bike.  I seldom used 1/2 the available power.

I'm on a 2013 V7 Stone.   My all-time favorite bike after 35 years of riding.  Horsepower has nothing to do with its appeal.

Heck, I've got currently a Triumph Street Triple 675 parked next to the Guzzi.  It's got what, 100 some HP?  It gathers dust.   The Guzzi goes everywhere.

I could not possibly care less about small block horsepower comparisons.   As the saying goes, that's like a group of Army Privates arguing about who technically has the highest rank.

I can count on one hand with three fingers removed how many times a US magazine didn't say the bike with the most motor wasn't superior to whatever else was reviewed or compared to.  So predictable........ .............

Try BIKE and MSL from the UK for starters.  So much better and more thoughtful.

V7III looks like the bike that is going to carry Moto Guzzi through the sales slow down across the industry right now.  Maybe the V9 as well, but last I heard the V7 III was their fastest seller?  It is the kind of motorcycle that late Gen Y's and Millenials starting as new riders, want to own both size wise and exotic brand reputation wise.

But I think Moto Guzzi remains relatively unknown as a brand among that demographic.  They need a cleverly targeted ad campaign to generate brand recognition.  Their current ad *content* looks adequate to attract GenY's and Millenials, but they may need to work on where they're placing it ... facebook, streaming media providers, with emphasis on the leaders in mobile venues popular with that potential market segment.

Would also be awesome to see the V7III featured in a major movie, such appearances always help marketing.   Harley Fatboy sales spiked after Arnold Schwarzenegger rode one in the terminator movie.

Yes, having Arnold ride your bike in a big-budget picture is good marketing.

A memorable movie scene with a hot chick in tight leathers on your bike is also good marketing.

The powers-that-be at Moto Guzzi do not understand good marketing.

Well not for nothing, but the Harley placement was successful not only because of the movie and star but because of the shear volume of Harleys and dealers, not to mention it was done at a time where the Softail was their most popular line to boot.

I don't think it would have worked the same way for Guzzi even if that had been a Cali or V7 instead of a Fat Boy all those years ago.

And I'm not going to say whether or not the current placement with Pee Wee and Joe Mangea@%$@%#Q whatever-the-frick his name is worked or not, but the V7 IS their most popular bike right now, do with that what you will.

Personally, I would love to see the small block make into the small CC style adv bike.

I know V7 line has a Scrambler style, but would love see it get in competition with models like BMW f800, GS310, Suzuki Wee-Strom, Triumph Tiger 800...etc

Other than that, I love my V7 stone to pieces... :thumb:

I believe Guzzi could easily and inexpensively build a water-cooled - but finned - version of the V7III that would be visually almost indistinguishable from the current air-cooled version, except for a discreet radiator.  That bike would have considerably more HP potential and would pass current and future emissions standards much more readily.  I think it is coming sooner or later, probably the former.
