Not all who wander are lost...
Sometimes they're stolen
And sometimes they're found :D. :D. :D
(Apologies to Tolkien)
Normally I don't like calls from the police at 3 am but I'll definitely make an exception here. They've recovered my bike!!! So stoked!
In the nick of time I might add. Just sent the title off to the insurance company on Monday but they hadn't written me the check yet. Oooh. And I sent them my key. Ah well, one step at a time.
They found it! Thank you SPD! (My yellow n black V7 Special had been stolen)

No idea yet. I've already sent a "now what?" letter to my insurance adjuster. I'll call the towing company the police use in the morning. And we'll go from there.
Still happy. These are basic bikes. Most anything can be fixed. (Or am I being too optimistic?)

May your bike be whole, the road clear, and the weather kind.

Glad to hear you are getting your bike back. Hope it is good shape.
In my 46 years with Moto Guzzi I don't think I've heard of a dozen being stolen. What part of the country are you in?

I had my old VFR750 stolen and the local cops found it and got I got it back the next day
I then had to fix the busted steering lock and replace the number plate
The very next time I rode it the chain broke ultimately writing the bike off
Now whether the chain would have broken anyway or whether the scrotes that nicked it did something to weaken it I'll never know
But I recommend that you give it a
VERY
good coat of looking at when you get it back.

Hmmm..... Being the devil's advocate, depending on your insurance coverage I'm wondering if it might not have been better to have never been found..

Thanks Guzzi Gal!
TT & Tris: I'm in WA state. I'll have it taken to Moto International and have them give it a really good look. I'm still waiting to hear back from the insurance this morning. They already have a few things on their plate from Mother Nature pitching a fit so it may be a day or two: we'll see.
MGrego: Nah, I'm quite happy it's back. Maybe ask me again in a couple weeks if things get to be a PITA (definitely don't want pieces falling off). I'd narrowed my replacement search to a couple bikes. The insurance money would help but I'd still be shelling $$$ out of pocket to get one of those other bikes. Assuming it's in good shape I'm very happy to have it back home.

No I'm not a religious fanatic, but I have been told I was born 200 years too late.
You don't take things that don't belong to you. Not a dollar or a bag full of money.
Have, or do a full service/flush the gas tank. Pick up a good cable lock too

Exciting news. Better, I should think, than having to settle for a substitute. Do let us know how it turns out.

No idea on who took it; just the call from the Police saying "it's recovered". I'm hoping they checked it for undesirable substances; I gave 'em permission to.
I've had a look at it and it's not as good as I'd hoped for and better than I feared. Weird thing is they repainted it (the tank...and a crappy job too) but left the original license plate on it.
Yeah, I've already talked to Moto International about next steps after I get it back home. They suggested at the very least an anchor in concrete if I'm going to keep it out of doors. Something I can chain to. They warned about people returning now they know there is a bike at our location and I can understand their concern. I'm also going to get a disc lock and probably one of those GPS trackers (Spot or something like that). Fun in the big city.
I'm pretty confident MI can get it back in good shape but they can't tackle it until November; too many other projects in the hopper. That's the biggest bummer. It'll be scooterville for me this Autumn.

Good tips on the gas and the saddle, thank you!
Because of the repaint job and how they did it, I suspect I have a new gas tank in my future. Not sure sending it out to be stripped and repainted is any cheaper than a new one; seems like everyone just replaces parts these days. We'll see. I AM going to have them put in a metal filter (my dime). I've been reading my Wild Guzzi threads...

Ooooh. And I may have to try out one of those maps (different thread)
Oh, and better shocks (I'm sure there's a thread on that)
and....
VERY happy to have my bike back. It'll be a sweet ride come spring.

Must be awful to come outside and realise your bike has been nicked. My condolences.
I use Abus bicycle locks. Excellent quality and very well designed. I imagine their motorcycle options are equally as good. I wouldn't use a cable as my main lock. They're too easy to cut with bolt cutters.

Depending on the paint used, it might be removable. It's likely a new paint job will be cheaper than a new tank - painting my bare tank was $AUD370 & the cheapest tanks I've come across were $570. Remember, you'll need a metal one, not one of the earlier plastic tanks (a different fuel pump).

That is a laugher and Darwin award as far a thievery is concerned. He's hoping you just need a new tank to get your ride back. As for the original plate that as stupid as it gets.
