Ken discharged from hospital yesterday pm.

Transfered to rehabilitation facility, where he will receive PT and OT.  Faithfully following exercise program and doing fine.

Meanwhile GRIT RALLY progresses well.

Thanks for that.  I'm trying to stay out of it for now -- Ken's got plenty to keep himself busy without my input.     So these reports are my only updates.

And glad the rally progresses even in his absence.  I hope the attendees manage to sneak him a visit.  Any sign of huckleberry pies?

Visited with Ken this AM.  Banged up but getting better.  In good spirits.  Has been up and walking.

Meanwhile GRIT Rally a success due to the tireless efforts of MGNOC Texas Rep Georgeann  Foster.

Tex is in rehab now and is working hard at getting back on his feet.  Thanks to all who have sent a card.  Keep praying and sending positive vibes his way!

Thanks to Smithswede, Ken sort of attended the GRIT rally long enough to have our pictures made with him!     Then we all sent him a "Tex Message".

Glad he's out and getting better.

Well, Tex didn't actually come to the rally, only his poster size picture came!  He can't get out of bed by himself yet, and Monday with help from PT or OT he walked about 25 steps. We all wrote messages on the poster and I carried those Tex Messages to the Rehab Hospital to him.

I see what you did there with the "tex message" thing.   :boozing:

Tell Ken I'll call him when things settle down at the rehab center, and thanks for keeping us posted.

Remind him about "a man who has friends" when he needs a bit of a boost.  He sure has a bunch around here!
The best part of riding a motorcycle is to tilt the horizon and to lift the front coming out of a corner and to drift the back end powering thru loose dirt and to catch a little air topping a hill and... yeah it's all good!

Tex went out for a morning ride to the coal mines yesterday morning, Sunday.  Just a few miles from his house, a truck "didn't see him" and pulled out in front of him.  Ken doesn't remember anything after that, so I don't know any of the details.

He broke both arms, ribs, clavicle, spinous processes on T5 thru T9 vertebra (mid-back) and some toes.  He also had a large deep gash all the way down to the knee joint.  He had surgery yesterday afternoon to clean out and stitch his knee and to fix one of his broken arms.  He will have more surgery today or tomorrow to fix the other broken arm and possibly the clavicle.  No head injuries, his helmet did it's job well!

They've got him in SICU for right now.

I haven't seen his bike yet, kinda scared to, but am going to try to get it transferred to a friend's body shop today so we won't be paying storage fees to the place that has it.

He has no computer access, and can't talk on the phone right now, but our phone numbers are 903-316-7720 and 903-780-4012.  Both of us have flip phones so we don't do internet on them.  You can text either phone, but it's too hard to text back.  No pictures or videos because the screen is too small to see them.

He would love to get some cards from anyone who would like to send one.

Address is:

Ken Hand
810 Sweetgum Ln
Lindale, TX 75771

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers and send positive vibes his way!

The show this weekend must go on, so if you were planning on coming to the GRIT Rally, come on, don't cancel!

Who knows, if he's out of the hospital, he may be able to come to the rally for a little, and if not, then he can probably have visitors at his home!  If he's still in the hospital, he'll be in a regular room by then and will be able to receive visitors.

Get those cards in the mail and see you this weekend!

Tex is coming home this morning, Monday, Oct 16.  He's been working really hard with PT & OT and can now walk 250 feet with no assistance!  Still no use of either arm - both broken and in casts/brace.  He's so excited, but I think he's going to miss all the nurses, techs, PT's & OT's cuz they've all taken such good care of him the last 2 weeks.  Thank you to all who have sent cards and gifts.  He can't believe so many people care about him.  Thanks for helping to keep his spirits up and his determination going.

Beeve,

Have ya'll  considered how the home health care agencies could help in Ken's recovery.  They were great help after Mom in laws last spill.

Hope he continues progressing well.

If Tex can't yet use either of his broken arms........how does he do #1 or #2, or for that matter anything else required in life?

I have  a bidet, but it doesn't look anything like that 1.   Still have to use my arms.  It does help me use less toilet paper in my septic tank.  :thumb:  Looks like my bidet is made for USA toilets.
