Replacement Seat for Griso
« on: October 04, 2017, 06:03:50 AM »
I just come back from a 560 km (359 mile) day trip, one thing I learned is this seat has to go, I'm trapped in one spot pushed forward.

Is there a stock replacement seat you would recommend or do I have to get one built by Rich or similar.

Thanks

Either get it reworked, or get one made. There are some 3rd party offerings, but there’s no factory option.

The only replacement seat that I know of is the Corbin.  Some like those and some don't.

The good news is a stock seat 883606 is around $100US through a dealer.  That's about $400US less than the Corbin and would go a long way with a seat specialist.

Nobody ever said any Russell Day-Long was pretty - just very comfortable. It's far better suited to a Norge or Stelvio than a Griso or Sport!

I took my Calvin to Mean Street Cycle, in Mayden NC for a little over 100 bucks he replaces the drivers portion of the seat with high quality close cell foam according to your weight or preference on firmness. Great people to do business with. I’ve been on 10 hour days on the Calvin now with no butt issues. I do use a sheep skin.

Do you make Pete ride at the back of the pack?
You think that's ugly

I found the Corbin to be pretty comfortable but I had a local seatmaker do a dual seat with the driver portion raised and moved further back.  On long trips I can slide forward or back a few inches.  That cool little underseat tool box got deleted in the process.

That's what I need, taller so I can slide back
I don't have a tool box, I should have said it's an 07 2 valve.
Found the tool pouch, nice surprise
I wonder if the PO had it lowered although I don't se any marks on it

Mean City Cycle, it says here, in Maiden, NC.   (Just saving a bit of searching).

I just realized I went right through there last year and didn't know about the shop.  Next time!

I’ve got a Corbin on my Griso. It’s ~20mm taller than the stock. You can slide your backside fore and aft a bit. I’ve done 10 hour days on it without complaint. With the stock saddle I’d had enough after 2 hours.

Is there any possibility that your discomfort is caused not by the saddle, but by handlebar and/or foot peg positions?  I installed a set of adjustable footpegs on my 2012 Griso, and positioned them at the 4 oclock position looking at them on the right side.  That put the pegs slightly lower and a bit more forward.  The saddle worked for me after that mod.

It's all subjective ..... what works for me won't work for you.

However, I can say that I rode the Griso from Guzzi Steve's shop in Dahlonega, GA  back to Hudson Ohio over a few days, and the saddle was the least of my problems.  I'm 5'7", weigh 165#.  My issue was with the suspension .... way too stiff for my weight.

It's more of a tool pocket, behind a plastic flap on the underside of the seat.

Moto,
Yes I found the tool pouch thankyou, I don't believe the previous owner was aware of it.

Must have to move the bike and gear pedals also
Thanks

Here's a link that shows adjustable pegs on my 2012 Griso 8vSE.  It's the best pic I could find on my Photobucket account.

http://s115.photobucket.com/user/bcgilligan/media/IMG_2767_zpssetbjct0.jpg.html

Here's the ordering info.  I purchased the pieces from Twisted Throttle in USA.

(1)    MFW.051.55.03.00    MFW Vario Footpeg Mount, Rider (Moto Guzzi Griso 1200)
(1)    MFW.051.00.00.50    MFW Vario Extension Arm, 50mm, pair
(1)    MFW.051.00.00.30    MFW Vario Extension Arm, 30mm, pair
(1)    MFW.050.00.03.00-1    MFW Master Grip pegs, pair, silver

The pic shows my bike with the 30mm extension arm.  The 50mm were too long.  I got by using the 30's in the position shown and didn't (as I recall) have to relocate brake or shifter.

You'll need the Footpeg Mounts, the Extension Arms, and the Pegs.  .

Bob

I ordered a Corbin just to have them call back and say they had never done one for an 1100 Griso, only the later 1200s
AH Fan assured me they were the same so I went for it, arrived on Saturday

The seat is slightly different, the earlier one has two hooks half way back but the later one attached just at front and back works well
On doing the bum test I'm very pleased with it, certainly dresses the bike up.

Seat difference - the early Grisos have a 4 point mounting, the later seats are just fixed front and rear.

I also fitted Knight Design 1-3/8 lower footrests and extended toe pegs

A Loop and a Griso you are my kind of guy!  The LM 2 was just visiting.

I have the Knight design 1" dropped pegs and a raised seat.  I did not move the foot controls, shifter or brake.  The shifter and brake are now about level with the peg instead of below it.
