t5 - modded out on pipeburn

there is a new guzzi submission today on pipeburn. it is not my cup of tea but i invariably respect the work involved in these things. my major beefs with this one are: 1) to me a "scrambler" should have its pipes designed so that none of their bits are below the bottom of the engine, 2) the term "scrambler" these days is a marketing convention being applied to (often heavier) bikes that will never see a dirt road or a trail, 3) this one seems proportionally out of whack, there is no balance between the front, heavy, gas tank and engine zone and the rearward skinny seat and open space below. but its a guzzi and i think all guzzi visions should be seen here.

Looks like an unfinished project to me. The battery tray (which was omitted) adds rigidity to the chassis.  Pretty lazy "build" over all. Two thumbs down.

I agree. The tank is very distracting and besides that is NOT a T5 tank. I believe it is a T3 tank.
Where's the battery?
I rather like the 2002 V11 that is linked at the end of the T5 article. It comes in at a whopping 380#s.

Anyone who thinks that this would ever be ridden off road for anything other then a photo shoot is on drugs.

It is heavy as hell, there is no suspension travel, the sump would be torn off way before the exhaust was ever in danger.

Still a fun bike, I like it except I agree that the tank is funky, it has a nice line that could have aligned nicely with the frame. Colors are pretty blah as well. If you don't ride in the dirt or rain, then fenders are not needed.

Oh hell guys, no hipster will ever take that bike off road, it'll never make it past the Starbucks or the micro brewery for one of those putrid IPA's. It's just a great look with a tattoo, slicked back hair and a wallet with a dog chain attached it's better to LOOK MAH-VELOUS than to ride mah-velouos!

Could be both wheels are 16", since that's what all US market T5s had.

The bike looks like a really fat guy sat on it and bent the frame  I don't like the sudden change of angle between the tank and seat. But, it's whatever floats your boat I guess. The rest of the bike looks great.

 That's  not an off road bike, the dual sport tires are popular on cafe/custom bikes.It's a styling thing...You guys riding dual sports know some brands of those tires have excellent grip on paved roads...
  No fender short seat bikes are often called "Brat bikes", although the term is generally used for modified Japanese 70-80's bikes.I have no comment on the styling....
  I built this Cali 2 cafe bike about 4 years ago from scrap laying on my shop floor, all hand made...Not the most elegant machine but it functions well for it's intended purpose...

     

  I built this 70 650 Triumph a few years ago with Shinko dual sport tires. The bike handled very nicely , but the tires are noisy..Of course a 390 pound Triumph can go down dirt roads...

When I bought my SP1000 back in fall 2015 it had a similar styling...Heidenau K60 tires are crappy on pavement, steps sidewards if you lean in curves and the rear tire wore out in 5000km. They had some merit on dirtroads I admit, but for everyday use they suck IMO. I changed to Avon Roadrunner, they are more my style.

Mine even had the same handlebars from LSL.... copy cat.... I could have been in a fancy magazine too!

The tank looks like mine too. The reason it sits so strange is perhaps because it was made for the short steering neck where the tabs (might) be sitting lower than on the later tall steering neck on a T5?
