Old Guzzi found in Italy
« on: October 18, 2017, 08:55:37 AM »

A friend of mine ran into this old guzzi in the hotel he was staying at in Italy. I have never seen one like it. What was it called? (Sorry the speedo picture was set upside down and I cannot get it to rotate for some reason.)

Galletto. Came in two sizes, either 175 or 193. The 175 came out in 1950 and was uprated to192 in 1954. model ran until 1960.

A spare wheel was carried in front of the leg shield.

If you want to know anything about Guzzi models the book " The Complete Book of Moto Guzzi" by Ian Falloon has it all.

The first commercial Galletto was a 160cc model. Then the 175 and 192. I believe the prototype was a 150cc.
I'd much rather ask for forgiveness than ask for permission.

"80 Years of Moto Guzzi Motorcycles" by Mario Colombo says 160 cc for 1950-1952, 175 cc at the end of 1952 and 1953, 192 cc from 1954 until production ended in 1966, the "last version" having electric start.

Dusty..... nothing gets by you.
I haven't run it yet and need to register it. I wanted to run it in the Moto Giro here in N. CA this year but will have to wait until next year. I will have it in order by then for sure. The picture is from the un-crating.

For running in the Giro I want to have a rack made like in the attached picture. I won't run a top case like shown but instead a duffel bag on the back and some small side bags. My rear seat on the Galletto has tabs that directly mount to the rear fender. Other Galletto's have a frame that mounts to the fender and the seat then mounts to the frame. It seems Guzzi wasn't entirely consistent even in 1953. I have bought a rear seat frame from Italy and plan to install that. I can fab it to hold a 1-gallon rotopax gas container that will provide 75-80 additional miles. Unbolt rear seat - bolt on Rotopax. I wouldn't mine putting turn signals on it. It's so crowded on the roads here it really helps to have other drivers know what you intend to do. All this would be easy bolt-on bolt off so it could be returned to original condition.

I'd much rather ask for forgiveness than ask for permission.
