Call 1400 spark plug gap
« on: November 02, 2017, 11:04:18 AM »
All
I am a little confused. the book says gap the plugs .024-.028. but the new plug box NGK LMAR8F-9 translate on the NGK page as the last number indicates  gap. 9 = .9 mm or .035.

They come in the box set to 0.035.  Slap in straight in at that value.  Never had an issue doing this.

Well. This has been  interesting.  Had  both  answers. 3 dealers and a reputable  source has said we set to Service manual specs. .024-.028. Online  post from Guzzitech and above response  says. 035. Let the party begin. :violent1:

Personally, I think regapping spark plugs is a thing of the past.  More likely to do damage than gain anything.  That's why I trust the NGK setting, and it works in practice.

Now watch the party animals!

Just curious...how many miles on your bike and how did the old plugs look?

It has about 13k on it. it is a left over 14 not on the road til April 15. plus i have two others so mileage is spread out.  this is the first time I pulled the plugs since service has been by dealer. Cant say what the plugs looked like before. This set has only been in there 1K miles but as i said above i wanted the correct plugs installed. the ones i took out look BRAND new. not a bit of color or  soot, etc.

i believe you just got one?  I love it. yes it has some quirks as all Guzzi's seem to. But wow. i ride 80-90% two up and it fits the bill. hate to say but say it with love. Its a Italian HD cruiser. gets lots of looks.

I did and I expect the Wrench icon to show any day now as I close in on 12,600 miles.  A dealer casually mentioned the 12k service was $7-800.  I need to look up what is involved in the service as that figure surprised me.  I'm assuming new plugs are part of it but if they're Iridiums they should be good for twice that mileage.

If he changes everything. brake fluid, clutch. oil etc maybe 6 but 8 seems high. They only make this plug as a standard. there are no fancy versions. you can mail order them for about $8 each  delivered from spakplugs.com. just punch in the part number 90894.
depends on his labor charge. $100 hr it will be at least $800.

Oh if he wants to change the rear end fluid, its supposed to be good for more mileage. but my dealer says just change it every other tire change (i only get about 5-6k on a rear) cause you have to remove the wheel to change anyway. that can save about $100 there, its a big process to remove the tire with having to take everything off, at least at dealer rates.
