which throttle lock is best?

I've had throttlemeisters on my last half dozen sport-touring bikes; have been generally happy with the product. Might put one on recently purchased Norge, but am also considering a Kaoko. Anybody have experience with both products? Recommendations?

I prefer the Throttlemeister design. I've never owned a Kaoko but I've ridden bikes that had them, and the clean, elegant and effective design of the Throttlemeister appeals to me more.

I have a Throttlemeister on my Norge. It doesn't get much use since it's a backup to the Rostra cruise control also installed, but I do use it from time to time.

 I have a spare throttle housing that I drilled and tapped 1/4-28. Bought a light switch knob at Ace Hdwe.

If you are familiar with the Throttlemeister & are happy with it, get another one. I myself prefer the simple GoCruise fotoguzzi pictured above. Simplicity itself, and at 20 of your dollars, it's a no-brainer for all my bikes.

My T-3 has the factory friction screw lock. Works pretty well overall. With one's fingers I don't think you can screw it down hard enough to not be able to override it with the throttle grip. What I like is you can adjust the tension from being just a mild assist with the throttle still being able to self close to screwing it down where about 80-90% of the resistance is gone or anywhere you want in between that. I live in the central US where you can ride 100+ miles without having to adjust the throttle.

They make them for MANY different bikes, and each one is designed to match the stock bar end weights.

I have them on my V7 Special, Ducati Monster 796, and BMW F800GT.   The work very well.   Set it, then you can make adjustments to throttle position without disengaging it.    Wrap you little finger around it as you roll out of the throttle to disengage.

That lever thing that goes on the grip and wrests against the brake lever looks cumbersome at best, and crash causing (because your attention is diverted while you screw with it to get it to do what you want).

I only use it on long trips but I do like the Kaoko on mine. It's very nicely made and looks like an OEM device. Easy to use.

I have a metal GoCruise on my Indian Scout; inexpensive but a bit more difficult to operate than the Throttlemeister that I have on my BMW F800GT; the Throttlemeister is also a nice looking piece. Will probably go with the Throttlemester.

I tried a Go-Cruise type - not for me! 1. it interfered with the comfort of my hand on the grip, and 2. you have to reset it every time you back off on the throttle. PITA in rolling hills.

I have used Kaoko for eight or more years and have been very pleased with them. You can set them so they stay where they are when you take your hand off yet move easily when you need to adjust the throttle. I have not used a Throttlemiester.

Happened to me once, too. After that, I loctited the hell out of them, and checked them periodically.

These work well on bikes with light throttle pulls like the DR/DL/650. They still creep but for a minute or two break before needing adjusting they are good. If I put that on my 850T with a heavy throttle pull it wouldn't work at all. HEck the throttle pull is so heavy vice grips might be a better choice for the T.

I tried the twist assist this last season on my Norge. Not a lock or cruise control, but after a bit of position fiddling it has worked pretty well. I like that it is still helpful under situations that require frequent throttle changes where other systems would not work.

When the Kid and I did our Carolinas spine raid this Spring, there was going to be several hundred miles of interstate, so I snapped one of these on the Mighty Scura. Worked fine.

When the Kid showed up with his Spot and wrist breaking throttle..  he had something similar made out of aluminum with a thumb screw. It worked fine, too. The nut must really *not* fall far from the tree. 
As far as I'm concerned, they are not for general use.. just to give your hand a break on a long interstate run.

That plastic lever type (non-screw) that goes on the grip and wrests against the brake lever looks cumbersome at best, and crash causing (because your attention is diverted while you screw with it to get it to do what you want).

The lever really is easy to operate. With the throttle open at whatever cruising speed you want to be at simply put you index finger on the beam of the throttle lock and push forward until it hit the brake lever. No need to even look at what you are doing. To disengage roll the throttle forward or if you want to keep the throttle "open" simply push the bottom tab of the throttle lock with your thumb and it will roll it back off the brake lever.

The biggest downside to me is it takes up some grip space.

Kaoko on a Breva 1100--I love it. I've had various throttle locks on various bikes and it's about my favorite. If your bike can take an NEP throttle lock, those are very good too, and cheap (Guzzi content).

I have only ever used the Kaoko throttle lock, on both of my Norges. I like that the throttle is held in position by friction, which is adjustable, and that it looks like a stock bar end weight.

None of these, of course, are as good as electronic cruise control, but they are far better than nothing on a long trip.

In November 2014, after having my 1200 Sport for 1 year, I looked at the throttle grip and the space beside it... That's when it hit me, a bungie cord is the same width.... hmmm. So I used an old bungie cord and a zip tie and devised this.  I've used it for 18,000 and it works perfect.

I rode 35 years on a BMW with a throttle friction screw.  When I want it on, I simply move it 1/2" to the left off the bar end, into the slot against the throttle grip and its on. Takes a split second.  (I don't move it as far right as the photo) To take it off, I grab it and move it 1/2" onto the bar end.

I wouldn't use anything else because it works so well, with just enough drag on the throttle to keep it open, yet easy enough to use the throttle when it's on, even in-town riding.

So if the Bungie fits, try it!
