Adding a V7!!! to the fold?
« on: November 14, 2017, 02:47:05 PM »
I have a Cali 1400 Custom that I have had for 2 plus years and farkled it out pretty well(Bags, Shield, Agostinis..ect). I thought about trading it in on a Stelvio or an MGX21, but since I have put all that money into it, and I still like the bike.. I just thought about keeping the  Cali and adding a V7III special or Aniversario for those around town and back road travels when I dont want to pull the 700 lb behemoth out of the garage.
Im a  bigger guy 6'1"ish 30" inseam 250ish, but owned a 2003 T-100 (back in the day) so Im guessing from a size standpoint the two bikes are pretty comparable.

I guess my question has anybody added a V7 as a secondary bike and how has it worked out for you? Also would you do it again or added something bigger like a Griso?

Thanks

I added a V7 as a 5th bike.  It feels like riding a 1970 motorcycle without the drum brakes, kick start, and carbs to mess with.  Definitely not as confidence inspiring as a truly modern bike but love that feeling that I need to stay on my toes if I want to ride it fast.

I’m considering the same thing, but would probably wait until next spring or summer. I definitely don’t need the bike, but it’s appealing and almost everybody here seems to love theirs. So we’ll see....

I don't need the bike as well,  but it would be cool just to have ..local dealer has the Black and green special and the Anniversario in stock and think I can get a decent deal from him. Its really tempting :-)

My dealer also has a black and green Special. I already have a black bike, but I do like that livery on the Special.

Add a V7, yup...

It's a great contrast to the "beast" at the other end.

Do it!  I have a 1400 Eldo and an Anniversario, they are both great bikes, Anni mostly in town but it will tour too.

They are both stock as far as shocks, exhaust etc but I have bags, etc.

Good luck, you will love the V7-iii and the Anniversario is a real attention grabbing conversation piece.

Looks white to me. And isn't that one of those limp whale phallus looking tanks you so dislike?

A stand-up comedian asks one of her male audience members, "What kind of car do you have?", and he replies, " a Camaro." Then she asks him to ask her what kind of car she has, and when he does she replies, "a white car," "it goes with everything!"

I said it "WAS" a black Jackal.

YUP, I never could get over that. I loved the bike, but never liked the shape of that tank... had to go.

I bought a V7III Racer a few weeks back. I'm in love with it: it's such a nice bike to ride! More than enough power, excellent handling, excellent brakes. Fitted with Agostini mufflers and an ECU remap to suit: lovely sound, great engine management. Couldn't be happier with it!

It's my only bike at this point, but I could go anywhere with it (and will). I used to do all my touring on a Moto Guzzi LeMans V, and the V7III Racer is very very similar: just a little lighter, a little shorter, and a little less power. The V7III will cruise all day long at 85-90 mph. For traveling, I fit one of the Guzzi dual seats (the Gel Comfort Saddle) and fit a touring bag (Nelson Rigg CL-3000) on the passenger section of the seat; perfect.

I'm a larger guy, like you: just shy of 6', 260ish weight, 29-30" inseam. The Racer's seating position is very comfortable. To accommodate my weight, I've upped the preload until I get 37mm of sag with me sitting on it; that's just shy of the Racer's two-up settings spec. Ideally at present, I'd fit the next range up Öhlins spring, but my weight is dropping by 1-1.5 lbs per week at present and I'll re-evaluate when I'm down in the 220 range. I'm never going to ride two-up anyway, so as it sits it has the right suspension setup and enough load capacity to handle me and my traveling kit.

I'd love a V11 Sport Scuro or a Griso as well, but I'm a bit tight on space to park and manage two motorcycles. The V7III Racer suffices. :)

TBH I think you be cramped I'm 5'11 have no idea what my inseam is but I have a longer torso rather than legs and the V7 is a pretty small motorcycle mainly in the seat to peg ratio not sure if the direct link will work but this is pretty handy. http://cycle-ergo.com

It's not significantly different in those ergos than my old Breva or say a Griso/Norge.

It's easy enough to build up the stock an inch or two depending on what you need.  The bonus is you get a better seat with more comfort.
IMO seats, bars, and screens should never decide what a rider does or does not purchase.  OEM's are building a bike for any of us so it's not at all unreasonable to change what needs changing.  Some do get a bit lucky right out of the box-good for them.

VERY good point.

Actually my current RK is a totally different bike ergonomically than my first RK because the police seat sits me up some 3-4 inches higher.

So I have seen the V7’s upclose but have only sat on the Racer. Would the V7 III series be equivalent to a Boneville in size and seating ergos? I owned a 2003 Bonne back in the day and the seating position was fine on that bike

Others I'm sure will comment. I'm under the impression they're in the same ballpark.

The V7 is a little lighter but dimensions aren't all that different.

That Black Jackal , was a pretty bike ...

I'm 5'10" w/32" inseams and the V-7II fits great !   I wouldn't want the seat to be any further off the ground , but I think the III model has an inch lower seat ?

I had such a love/hate relationship with that bike... Kinda like this chick I dated in college. Neither was a healthy relationship.

I liked it more visually at the end... But we'd reached the end...

No this has nothing to do with marque or being disrespectful.

Babe, Gal, Chick in this usage are all endearing, informal ways to refer to a young woman. If anything I would say it is exceedingly polite when I'm specifically referencing one with whom we had a mutually unhealthy and self-destructive relationship. I wish her no ill will and I'm not speaking badly of her, but then again I'm not want to refer to her in any way as a "lady" with the additional connotations of polish one would expect from the term.

So I meant what I said and said what I meant, no umbrage necessary.

I'm offended that you associate using the work chick with that other marque.  Where do you get off making that kind of derogatory comment while attempting to take the high road regarding the weaker sex?

It was just a poor attempt at humour. But you're right, of course; it's not the intent of the meaning that matters, it's how it's perceived.
No ill intent towards Kev either, I was just pointing out that we need to tread carefully with our choice of words due to the recent political climate.
