New H pipe installed
« on: November 18, 2017, 03:55:04 PM »
I just finished installing the new H pipe from MG cycle. I got a o2 sensor plug from my local parts store to plug the hole. Took her for a test ride and she really sounded great, much more throaty but not to loud. I could not  tell that the Calvin ran any better as I waiting for my buddy down under to assist me in the remapping phase but there were no negative changes. No spitting back or popping during deceleration. The roll on power was ok from 70 mph on. I can imagine how it will preform after The remapping. I’ll offer a follow up when the makeover is completed.

Not sure how those ECU work exactly, but save your current map settings before making changes. Sometimes remapping isn't always better. Sounds like it's probably right where it needs to be to me, but worth a try as long as you can easily revert back. Good luck!

I take it you've ditched the colostomy bag?  Lost power at lower revs?

My intentions exactly. I’ve made a buddy here on the forum that’s got a lot of experience with these types of procedures and has been walking me through it step by step. A couple months ago on a hot day I was on the interstate running around 70mph. When I tried to accelerate the Calvin would just spark knock and not increase power, definitely not right. It’s my understanding the CO2 sensor is responsible for this type of mishap. One does not have to be a mechanic to know this is not right!

Dave, during hot weather at highway speeds of 70mph when attempting to accelerate the Calvin would just spark knock with little gained power or speed increases. Definitely not right! There are a lot of folks here that have eliminated a lot of issues by doing away with the third muffler and O2 sensor and remapping. I’ll give a follow up after I have completed the the modification.

I installed a H pipe on a '96 Cali 1100 last of the carburetor versions.  It ran very lean at low and mid throttle openings.  Raising the needle a notch helped, but it really needed new slides with reduced cutaway.

After a lot of frustration, I replaced the colostomy bag, and wow what a difference!  The H pipe never went back on.

Much easier these days to upload a new map, someone on this forum has probably already been there and can help with the map.  Groover's advice to save your existing one first is sound thinking.

Speaking of "Remapping", I note that down-under Guzzi tuner "Beetle" is gone off the list?

When someone leaves WG, my usual comment is "Hey, it's not the Mafia, you can quit if you want"  ... but when a supplier of services goes and his signature-embedded contact information goes with him, I would just ask if he's out of the tuning business or just off of WildGuzzi?   I was overseas for a couple weeks and might have missed anything rude that happened, so forgive me if it's a sore subject ....

There's a "new goose" who registered on the 20th of this month, with four posts, and he appears to be the guy you're wondering about.  Maybe he had a problem with his account and started over or something innocuous like that.

Ditch the O2 sensor on the remap.  Nothing but trouble.

Cam, I put a plug in the menstral H Pipe when I put it on and covered the sensor well before zip tying it to the frame. I’ve ride the bike a couple times s d it seems Yoruba great with no flaws at all that I can detect even with no sensor. No idiot lights have came on or nothing unusual other that a little more grawl without the third muffler. My understanding is that removing the sensor will render an open instead of closed loop system.

part number #884072 Expansion chamber, I think you may be referring to it as the third silencer.  Never heard it being called that before.

Yep the, whatever the fat muffler lookinggthing between the pipes is now under the workbench with all the old Harley parts and the Calvin is sporting a new menstral H pipe without the 02 sensor. Sounds great!

No, not did the remap yet, just replaced the middle muffler with the menstral H pipe and DID NOT put the 02 sensor back in. I’m waiting to get together on Facebook messenger with my buddy from Australia to walk me and my wife, on the laptop, through the remapping procedure
