From what I understand based on local media reports and witnesses at the time, the car did an abrupt lane change in front of the rider cutting him off, rider does bird flip off, words exchanged and at the next light, more words were exchanged. Driver didn't like what was said and decided to run them over in a rage.

The video was filmed by the riders and posted from their perspective, which makes me wonder what led up to the altercation.

From the video it looks like those riders got what they asked for. Flipping the bird and leaving is one thing, but this looks like it went on long enough for the pick up driver to call friends, and direct them to their location.

It's lucky no-one was shot.

Probably true, but the video should be enough to bring very serious assault and battery charges against the assailants. The weapon that was brandished, the repeated death threats. I hope the whole thing is investigated.

But I think you may be right. Were you told where it happened?

I tried to see what state the license plates on the vehicles came from, but they all seemed to be blurred or obscured above the main letter/number displays. Maybe it's just my monitor. But does anybody recognize what state issued the plates?

Considering that people make money from Youtube for the hits they generate, there would be a motive to stage this. I think I may have just passed along "fake news." For which I'm sorry.

Rednecks are beyond stupid. I regularly commute on 2 lanes in south Alabama and when you pass someone you get one of 2 reactions: they brake( god knows why) or they speed up. The ones that speed up seem to believe you've encroached on their territory or questioned their manhood. They usually retaliate by tailgating for a couple of miles but if ignored they invariably fall back to their former snails pace.
I never react to these semi road rage incidents with gestures or looks in the mirror or anything. Just resume my normal speed and if they don't get a reaction they just go away.

I vote for staged. He just happened to stop where there was a truck parked who's driver would take his side. Fat psycho guy just happens to be off the road right there. Dude comes out with a shotgun when nothing has escalated beyond 2 guys scuffling. The 2 bystanders start wrestling over the gun for no apparent reason. Didn't see enough of a fight for the motorcyclist to be lying inert on the ground for that length of time. Got absolutely no help from his buddies either during the fight or after.

Speaking as a retired LEO in a rural area. Red necks can be very unreasonable people
At times but always remember they tend to “PACK UP” and can be very dangerous. The best action a rider can take is if there is a near miss from an accident just be thankful you are not hurt and resist the urge to retaliate and just be thankful you were not injured. Also I CCW for the times I can’t avoid the encounter as I am to old to fight and to proud to beg or run;)

Years ago (`01) on a curvy road in Georgia I passed a car in front of us who was going slower than I wanted to go on a 2 lane road.  We were in a Toyota Corolla pulling a tent trailer w/Calif. plates.   The car we passed seemed to be incensed by what I did and passed us back when he could.   A little later he saw a place to pull off the road, got out of his car and looked like he wanted to fight with me.     He did have red hair, but I don't know if I'd call him a REDNECK. We ignored him and had no more issues.  Never had anything like that happen before or after in my life so far.

OTOH, years before this episode while working @ an Air Force Base in norCal a black female employee who had never been outside of Calif. asked me if I was a REDNECK.   I informed her NO.  Tho I don't mind being around REDNECKs.  I can relate to them better than some other species of Americans I've been around.
