Guzzi Hydro Recall Valve Tappet kits! MG Promotion
« on: December 07, 2017, 05:02:38 PM »
About 1 year ago, with the help of folks here, and no help from MG, I was able to save a unrecalled Hydro Valve Platinum! Kudos to the forum. The bike had less than 2K miles but was parked because MG found it, "not in the campaign". You can sense my hidden rant. MG wanted over 2K for the repair kit which retailed for much less during the campaign, but many affected bikes (namely mine) were omitted. I found great help here and fixed the bike!

I don't know how many affected bikes may still be out there, but MG is now offering a special on the kits. Contact your MG dealer and hurry. Dunno how many are out there. You will still need to borrow or rent the special tools to make the repair. The part number is GU03049872.

Can someone tell me? Do these fit anything other than Hydro valve? They are being marketed as Timing System Update Kit Part no GU03049872 to dealers at original cost (Can I post that, i.e. dealer cost and the new MSRP?  Its a small fraction of the original 2K MSRP). Sounds like there is a deal on these Timing/Cam kits

So what do they fit? I can get one for *about* $700+ but I don't have any use right now.

$700 is still about 3x the original cost.  For a while I could get the complete kit -- with the tools -- for $125.  It's a shame that they're price gouging on the fix to their f-ing mistake.  Mark this as an example for the next discussion of how Guzzi has their head up their ass.

The kit fits only hydros.  They have a completely different lifter and cam follower arrangement, and the cam and valve bits are specific to the recall.

Thank you. Still might be helpful to some since they wanted to gouge me 2K about 1 year ago. Guess I wont load up on extra kits tho!

When MG runs out of the kits they have another run of them made up, don't know how many are in each batch. Each time the cost is more than the last to produce. This is what I was told by them. That model engine stopped production coming up on 13yrs ago, they could have stopped at 7yrs by law or whatever.
If you never go back to a dealer, how would you know?
They won't be doing this forever.
The roller fix will most likely be the same nightmare for them.

My understanding is that the "Motor Company" petitioned to have motorcycles classified as recreational vehicles. So the law is that parts are only needed for 3 years , unlike cars.

Or so I heard.

Whew, Glad I bought a kit when I could (just in case). To bad mine didn't come with any tools. It was still only 125, a bargain!
