Waterproof socks?
« on: December 25, 2017, 06:35:52 PM »
Barb got me these for Christmas 🎄

I think I can get some use out of these. For a while every time I rode with Delrod, we had a monsoon

:thumb:  I really loved mine in a horrible week of rain.

(But since I've purchased some really good rain boots (I hear) it's barely rained on me!)

1300 miles in rain socks and water shoes returning from Ely MN. They work.
Unmitigated risk aversion is the new Puritanism; complete with witch hunts funny outfits and humorless preachers thundering doom. The Deity is Safety; Satan is a Lawyer; but the object is the same: to suck the life out of life and tell you how to live it.

These are good to but are more of a removal barrier over a conventional sock for boots that are not waterproof. (Like black Gaerne trials boots !)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgJpYj2NJ5o

I've been wearing trials boots for years (Forma now) sometimes hitting a big puddle in a wheelie doing 30-40 miles per with your riding buddy next to you just seems like the right thing to do and sometimes a little gets up over the top of the boot. <shrug>

Never heard of waterproof socks.  Interesting.

I wear Gore-Tex riding boots when on a tour.  I also have Gore-Tex riding gloves and a custom made motorport breathable rainsuit.  I can ride all day long in the rain and stay dry.

I definitely recommend Gore-Tex and Motorport.

I was thinking that too.   I wore a pair of original SealSkinz on our Nova Scotia trip and they did work well (although when I dropped the bike at almost a stop, the sock melted on the exhaust - THAT was hot!)

However, since then I've discovered Merino Wool and SmartWool socks and that's all I ever wear - foot problems (sweaty, or athlete's foot, or little fungal issues) are gone for good with those, and I wear the waterproof part elsewhere (boots in this case).

One thing about anything being waterproof.  If it keeps water out, it can also keep water in.  Ask Zoom Zoom about his bike swim at the MN. National bike drowning.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.

Was very fortunate to see Frank 3X's while living in CT. Since moving South to TN 33 years ago i have seen his son Dweezil perform as Zappa Plays Zappa. If you ever get a chance see them!

Check out the Frank's son performing "Black Napkins"
