Thanks John,
I liked that Jackal, rode it home to Maine from San Diego in the Summer of 2015...  so this would be sometime in the Spring of that year... maybe.

I rode it home to Maine, kept it for about another year or so and sold this one to a friend here.   We had purchased an '04 EV Touring new in '04 and I wanted another when this one came available.

One of my favorite surprise finds on a trip up into NY.   Rock City Park in Olean.

A favorite trip - Pittsburgh, Pa to Mount Washington in NH.

We'd just got back after a quick 160km loop to see if the 'Stelvio from Hell' was finally fixed! I'm happy to report it is!

I've taken trips in that direction and probably a few more coming ...

Do you have a favorite motorcycle-friendly route through PA-NY-NH?

Nice.  I regularly miss “Whitey”, my former 2011 white Stelvio.  I’ve almost purchased it back a couple times from the fellow I sold it to but it needing the conversion always kinda stops me.  Sometimes I wonder if it should

Lannis

When we do a trip up that way,  we're normally in exploration and survival mode.  So take this route list as a loose guideline of our route:

We usually head up 79 and make our way east towards either 62 (out of Franklin) or further east towards Shippenville to jump on 66.  62 and 66 are decent bike roads after you get past the towns and into Allegheny Nat'l Forest.   Rt 6 will run along the top of Allegheny Nat'l, so we can jump on that and head east or keep going north (crossing rt 6) and start looking for 417. Either way,  we're heading towards a waypoint of Corning, NY.
To make up time,  we unfortunately jump on 86 to get us into the Binghampton area.
Not particularly scenic, we'll do 7 from there all the way into Bennington.  Once we cross the Hudson River, things seem to get a little more comfortable.  We've had to go through some small towns and slightly residential areas on this route,  but once nearing VT, we're getting into more scenic byways.   The Bennington Monument is pretty cool if you get a chance to stop.
Depending on time,  you can stay the course and take 7 north out of Bennington or continue East on 9 from Bennington till you reach 100.   7 and 100 run parallel routes north...and I think we even tried rt 7a north as well.  There are some fine roads to be had heading north,  but frost heaves left me wanting for Ohlins suspension!  The first time we did the trip,  we sort of zig-zagged our way north, going from 7 to 100 and back (we planned it so we would end on 100 when we got near Stowe).   We stayed at a Wildguzzi member's Bed and Breakfast while in Stowe.  The Gable Inn as I recall.  I'm not sure Raynette still owns it or not, but he had a Griso back in the day.
When we  headed to Mt Washington from Stowe,  I'm thinking we took roads like 100 to 15 towards Wolcott all the way down to Rt2 near St Johnsbury.  18 to Littleton and then 302 to north on 16 to the auto road.
We had time on our way back (or so I thought), so we searched out the Kancamagus Highway(112) and meandered our way towards Montpilier and Duxbury to 100 and back to the Inn.

richy

*We've only ever used rt 7 to get into VT.  This gets you into the bottom of the state.  I'm thinking we came home out of the northern part of the state by going down 100 to 17.  This would be a more scenic route as it points you to Adirondack State Park.  We've traveled through the Adirondack State Park up to Lake Placid a couple times,  and it's beautiful up that way.  Be warned though...some routes in that area seem to go on forever!

Riding 2up through the mountains in the rain!  I usually get a knot in my stomach when I see the dark clouds in the distance...

I had a good ride through one of my favourite roads on Sunday. Any readers/riders that know the central North Island of New Zealand would be familiar with the Vinegar Hill road. It is bumpy, hilly and has lots of tight corners. In other words it is perfect for a V7 Guzzi. I like to encounter young riders on sports bikes on this road. While they are trying to keep their front wheels on the ground and get their knees down I just toot my horn and disappear ( until the next long straight).

Cheers, voncrump

Thanks!   I'll trace that out on a map and see what it looks like ....

Sometimes exploring is nice, but often it's nice to be on a road that you're pretty sure isn't going to turn into a truck-and-stoplight nightmare ... !
