I have an old General Electric motor, 1/4 hp model 27468, type sa, Frame147, FormDB that I need brushers for. they are cylindrical, about 5/16" diameter. this motor apparently predates the modern numbering system and I'm stuck , cannot find any info on this motor. Anybody have any ideas?

i'd give these guys a call. while none of their g.e. brush pics look like round brushes (hard to tell from some of the pics though) they may be able to lead you in the right direction. perhaps you can swap out the entire brush cage for a more contemporary square or rectangular style and then use more standard brushes from that point forward. just a guess. good luck.

I have rebrushed many motors using the generic brushes in the parts array at True Value Hdwre, often for ~$1.00. Sometimes you have to file them to fit, but carbon is carbon. If it slides in the bore, takes a spring, and the pigtail connects, it should work.

My local Ace hardware carries a good assortment of universal brushes. If all else fails you could make your own

8.1mm a little bigger than 5/16 but could be lathed or filed to fit. My $.02

Lumpy idle is the winner! I called Repco but they had a minimum order, they told me to go to Eurtinelectric.com. I looked at their catalog and was undecided so I called Advance Carbon, another place Repco told me about. They had parts catalogs from the 1920's and they gave me the correct part number but they were out of stock. so back to Eurtin electric and brushes are on the way. I looked thru my stash of brushes and didn't have anything remotely similar or would have made some, I was getting ready to order some round carbon like Rikrat suggested. Thanks Guys!
