Haven't looked yet, but if "What's Opera, Doc" isn't in there, then it's not the ten best.

Absolute genius in so many ways! :thumb: From the voice work of Mel Blanc, to the writers, the great art and animation to the use of classical music. Just classic in every way.

A few years ago, I bought a bootleg dvd set on eBay with every Speedy Gonzales episode. It’s so gloriously politically incorrect and hilarious. In the winter months, when I’ve had a crappy day at work and it’s already too dark for a nice ride, watching Speedy while savoring a nice IPA is the next best thing.

Hey, if you're watching Speedy Gonzales you should probably be drinking Modelo Negra!  :boozing:

I don't think any of the Looney Tunes were really intended for kids.  The humor, tongue-in-cheek expressions and double entendres seem to be way ahead of most kids.

Haven't checked this list, but one Bugs Bunny classic had a line in it that I use at home to make the kids laugh and get a swat from my wife:

Bugs fell in love with a mechanical rabbit at a Greyhound-racing track. He stopped the rabbit on it's track, gave it a smooch and got shocked and knocked out - when he came to the rabbit was gone, so he exclaims to the audience "Ain't that just like a woman? Turn your back for a minute and they're gone....."

How sad that kids of today's generation will never know the pure humor in a sexist comment like that!

How sexist is it, really, when the same line could be used with the situation reversed?

Ah, ah, that's your male "privilege" speaking.    You know that every single one of the "-isms" is a one-way street!

I don't think that any of the old animated cartoons were meant for little kids, although we little kids tended to enjoy them.

I mean, take this old advert for example.   I doubt this was pointed at 8-year-olds, although given the times, you never know ....

Hope they included some roadrunner. The coyote was ahead of his time ordering from Acme, the precursor to Amazon.

THAT'S HILARIOUS! I grew up with those ads, but forgot how forceful they were, and that wasn't that long ago!

Regarding cartoons NOT aimed at kids, the best were the old Rocky & Bullwinkle shows by Jay Ward. I remember reading that he butted heads continuously with his producers because he intentionally added political humor for adults.

My fav was a Dudley Do-Right episode where Snidley Whiplash was escaping a robbery heist in a small airplane. The announcer spoke: "And at this time Snidely Whiplash was high over Toronto".
Snidley then turns to the audience and says "I have NEVER been high over Toronto....." leaving us kids scratching our heads, and the adults smirking.....

Looney Tunes was political during WW2... The corpulent Nazi must be Hermann Goering ... many more like this using caricatures of Germans and Japanese

In my cable-cutting journey,  I've run across a streaming channel called Pluto.tv.   One channel is nothing but "Classic Cartoons".  The other day I watched a Felix the Cat cartoon from the 20's.   Sweet.

And for sure "Betty Boop" was not intended as a funny little character for the kiddies .... !   Men still go weak in the knees over her ....
