And Keith Richards.

When and IF Keith dies, it will truly be the sign of end times.

And Keith Richards.

I've been thinking and considering, and I remember Dean Martin ... Dean Martin spent a lot of his time playing the lovable drunk, ran with "The Rat Pack", supposedly the womanizer of the century ... but his kids say he was at home every night with them, Frank Sinatra said "I've spilled more booze than Martin ever drank ..." ... in other words, he made a living playing a character that people say was nothing like he really lived.   (He died of cancer at 78 after 65 years of heavy smoking).

It's possible that Keith Richards has done the same thing.   I say "possible", because he's first and foremost an entertainer playing a part, and who knows what he's REALLY done?   He may flog all the stories about sexdrugsandrockandr oll because it's always been a good thing for his career ...

And since nobody here hung out with him (or hangs out with him now) on a regular basis, and can say for sure what he does or doesn't do, I doubt if anyone knows a lot more about it than I do ....all you can go by is the press releases ... !

Keith actually quit heroin twice.  He kicked it in the early '70s but had a go kart accident in Paris and was given morphine.  He was back on it by the time the Stones were recording Exile.

He and Mick were stuck on it through most of the '70s until they went to the "vampire" doctor in Switzerland that used  complete blood transfusions as part of their therapies and recoveries.

Anyway, true if you believe what you read.    :undecided:

I remember that he once said he snorted a stack of coke even after some his father's ashes had spilled into the pile.

Glad we're not yacking about something controversial here.

Yup.   Makes a great story.   If none of the wild stuff had happened, how famous would he be ... ?

Like Lannis said...who knows what's really true...????  but it does make for a great story-line...like this little gem:

It wasn't just heroin - Keith also used pharmaceuticals copiously.  On the Stones' Bacchanalian 1972 tour, he traded women to their staff doctor for unlimited access to his medical bag, which Keith calls "smorgasbording."  Along with the cocaine and tequila, he was completely out of control, at one point setting fire to their hotel bathroom, as well as "using guns too much."
