Indiana Moto Guzzi Not-A-Rally June 1,2,3 2018
« on: January 24, 2018, 02:41:43 PM »
Indianapolis has an annual event now known as the "The Reunion Motorcycle Show", formerly known as the Rockers Reunion. Organizers changed, and the name did as well, as I understand it. I have not attended this show, so I can't speak from experience, but I'm under the impression it's more of a hipster tinged event, lots of rat bikes, vintage and resto-mods. Street vendors, food tents etc. Tends to be pretty well attended and something of a regional event, drawing from Cincinnati, Louisville and Chicago respectably.

A local Indy Guzzisti, younger guy very much in that scene and an organizer of other well attended local motorcycle events, most notably the Indy Mad Max Run, approached me about allowing my place to be used as a rally type site for that same weekend, so that we could attract and amass regional Guzzisti around the rocker event. I said sure.

I have many acres, several lawn, several heavily wooded, walk out basement with shower. There will be ample room for tents, a porto John, fire pit, large grill(s), tire swing, fishable Creek. It's a secluded park like setting, all only 20 minutes from downtown Indy.

This coincides with the Indiana Guzzi Luncheon, 1st Sunday of every month.

The plan at this point is something like this:

Friday through Sunday AM June 1,2,3rd 2018

Saturday, ride  to Rockers and attend. Return to Traders Point (my place) for lodging and socializing. (several hotels within 2 miles, several more within 6)

Sunday AM "Covered Bridge Ride" west of Indianapolis, ending with Lunch in Lebanon (20 minutes from my place)

Be on your way after lunch.

Obviously quantity of Attendees and content of same will dictate what Sunday's ride(s) look like. Chuck has thrown his hat in, so a smaller, fast paced ride is likely, in addition to a more "tour" oriented ride as well. But this is all speculative at this point.

There's a facebook event created by the organizer that I'm attaching here. I realize that's not viewable for everyone, feel free to contact me with any questions. Also attaching the Reunions page, for reference.

So, yeah. Yer all invited.

It'll be a good time. Kip has an amazing place for a not a rally, especially considering how close it is to Indy.
Put it on your calendars..
What used to be called the "Rocker's reunion" is fun, too. It's in a renovated section of Indy. Many bikes and riders of all kinds show up. Lots of classics and antiques along with the.. uh.. customs.  Local food is good, too. Lemee see if I have a picture from last year..

Ahh, here we go..

I may be able run up for the bike viewing on Saturday.  That's a busy time on my Riding Calendar with the ROK Beemer rally in TN the previous weekend and the WNY Guzzi rally the following weekend.

So many events -- so little time.

I'd jump The River and get to I-57 ASAP.  Follow that north to I-70 East to Indy and then I-465 North to the NW corner of the city.

Ride safe.

Thanks just the same, but on the map there are a LOT of twisty, interesting roads I'd much rather take than the excrutiatingly BORING U.S. Interstate Highway System...kidsmoke has given me some tips for that part of the country...

Good for you.  Let us know what you think.  I've been across Illinois many times to the Beemer Falling Leaf Rally in early October.  All of the two-lane roads are about the same.  Pretty Boring.

You're going to be crossing it in early June.  The southern half of the state, actually most of the northern half also, are into farming.  That means beans on the left, corn on the right -- or vice versa.  Unless there's a flood along the rivers, then it's just brown.

Have a good trip and ride safe.

Well we’ll just see if Jerry’s coffee is up to this hipsters standards [emoji6]. I do have a personal rally French press but no portable bean grinder. And I have yet to invest in the BMW adventure rider’s staple of a jet boil, even if I admit I have looked at them. I think their demographic is BMW GS riders [emoji6] us Guzzi riders are simple folk, so I do look forward to Jerry’s coffee.

It's forever since I've been there but my brother lived in Southern Ill for decades and I attended SIU in Carbondale. Also lived in central Ill and used to go to the flat tracks in Louisville taking back roads through southern Ill and Indiana. Southern Ill and Indians is great riding country. Here something to consider.
Illinois Route 3North to 146 EAST through the Shawnee National Forrest. Route 34 (in the Shawnee National Forrest) north to Karber's Ridge Road. Take KRR to Route 1 north. Then off Route 1 to Peabody road NE becomes Ringgold Road to Old Shawnee Town. Take route 14 into Old Shawnee Town and cross the Ohio River on route 56.  Stay on 56 east around Morganfield and then pickup route 60 East to 41 north.
Then slab it on I-69 to Bloomington and then route 37 into Indy.

The Rocker's Reunion was a motorcycle show put on by the Ton-Up Club chapter of Indianapolis, of which I am an active member.  Originally, it was primarily a vintage/cafe racer show held outside of the Melody Inn... a much seedier part of town.  As it grew, we added more categories, and we eventually needed to find a better location that would work with us and Fountain Square was a perfect fit.  The show became a whole bunch of work and a lot less fun than it used to be... too many chiefs and not enough indians, etc.  Long story short, we passed the show along to a willing and talented group of folks, some of which are members of Ton-Up Indy, and you now have The Reunion.  I am planning to attend, and would love to meet up with you guys and hang out, although this puts some pressure on me to get my Stoney 1100 roadworthy for such a gathering.  I am currently working on one of my other machines to take to another Ton-Up show, The Meltdown Vintage Motorcycle Show down in Hendersonville, NC on April 28.  Any Guzzisti near Hendersonville should come out to that!

astride a Guzzi otherwise,  be great to meet you. I'm thinking we may have crossed paths at other Indy events. Parish has put together an event page on Facebook for this also. (assuming you know him...he organizes the Mad Max run as well.)

Can usually be found at the Steer Inn events as well. There's only a couple of us on Guzzi's, and, well, we tend to congregate.

It's the first Thursday of the month, actually, so tomorrow is looking a bit crummy, weather-wise.  I try to make it over there as often as I can. Hey, Chuck, my brother has been rehabbing an MZ Skorpion Sport, and he will likely be riding it over there next month if the stars align.  There will be no missing him on that thing!  Big guy... unfortunate paint scheme... loud.
