EV-11 California rear shocks

Well, we just had a few warmer days here in New York and it got me to thinking about riding. One of the things I remember considering last year was to do something about my rear shocks  . I have a 1998 EV-11 California. No matter where I position the adjuster on the shocks, they just don't seem to be working. With all of the knowledge on this forum I'm hoping for some guidance/suggestions on what I should consider. I'm about 220 lbs. if that makes any difference.

I got the Ikons at MG Cycle for my Vintage. Adjustable for rebound damping and preload. Great complement to a pair of Hyperpro fork springs...

The adjuster on the EV only changes the damping a little. It does not change the pre-load, because that might interfere with the brake valve on the swingarm.

But.


Most people switch out for preload adjustable shocks. I got Ikons from MG cycle and am happy.

Hagon, reasonable price for moderately good shocks, talk to Dave Quin and he will put the right spring for your weight on them..

I've never put Hagons on a Guzzi but I have on several BMW's.  Great shocks for a reasonable price.  Like Fotoguzzi said, give Dave Quinn a call to discuss your needs. When the time comes I'll put Hagons on my California EV.

Hi Jack,

 IMO, the rear shocks on the EV were probably shot after your first oil change. I also have a '98 EV and changed out to Ikon's that I purchased from MG Cycle. Adjustments are a breeze and once you get both the preload and rebound damping correct I think you'll be pleased. During the adjustment period I took the bike out on some twisties, rough roads and then highway to make sure I  was satisfied. I actually called Ikon Suspension USA in PA and talk in length about my bike and how to go about the adjustment process. All in all the best $350 spent on my EV!

Get some decent rear shocks.  I was happy with my Fournales air shocks.  And I never felt any change in braking power (I never had strong believes in the effect of other shocks on the brake valve on the swing arm).

Went with Ikons (Konis) early on my 98EV.
Been OK. Haven't thought about them in quite awhile.

Ikon's from MG Cycle here.  Best money I've spent.   To test your current shocks...... fill your bath tub.  If they float they are fine!
