Off to see the Wizard..!
« on: March 09, 2018, 05:14:28 AM »
Where else would you go when you live in the merry old land of Oz ?
Just occurred to me a while ago that we've all benefited to a more or less degree from a couple of guys here in Australia that bend over backwards to assist us at the drop of a hat.
So to that end I thought I'd head off up to Bungendore after an overnighter in the truck and see if I can drown Roper in beer and steak.
Just seemed plain rude not to.
Incidentally, the Norge did 500 km on one tank and I needed 21.2 litres to fill it at the first stop, so my math says a sniff over 4 litres per 100 k @ 100-110 kph.
Not too bloody bad I reckon.
There'll be some disturbing images of Roper in a feeding frenzy tomorrow, so if you don't want to know the result, look away then...
Meanwhile, here's a shot of the departure.

Yes he is, but not for eating !!!
I once went to a Chinese restaurant with him, the chicken was tough as an old boot, he said to the waiter, hmmmm....
"This chicken is rubbery"....
"Ahh..! Thank lou velly much" said the waiter from Shanghi bowing deeply...
(accompanied by a crashing gong at exactly the right moment)
"Will pass compriment to new Chef !"

Well it all went very well.
Back at Aunt Em's with 1700 beaut k's added to the clock and not an ounce of drama.
Had a short ride with Pete and he checked the TB's, two thumbs up..!
Spot on.
Funny thing on the way home down the Hume Freeway though..

There I was cruising along minding my own business when a conglomeration of 1% ers, came heaving onto the freeway in a mishmash of pipes, noise and skull caps.
Moving over to allow the mandatory 2 1/2 acres of room for them to enter the freeway I was able to witness Newton's law being defied, as 0.8 tons of Harley FLXCCTSSHLCXXT in the lead, was bravely being coaxed into changing direction by 15 degrees at the insistence of the stoic "rider".
The rear tyre looked like it had been salvaged from a Top Fuel dragster and despite every law of Physics, the Neanderthal aboard managed to cajole the heap of garbage more or less onto the Freeway, almost between the lines amazingly enough.
However there was more to come.

Having had almost every one of my five senses assaulted, I thought I'd sit a safe distance behind and watch the display of tribalism that was being played out for my enjoyment. Nothing more than 2" is allowed to exist between any bike and it's nearest neighbour, and as if to give an outward display of their never ending "man love " for each other, they clumped together like a herd of Rhinoceros on the Serengeti Plain and occupied the complete width of the Freeway, at the mandatory 15 kph below the 110 kph limit, all the while answering the question that nobody asked.
Reminded me of the Lion in the Wizard of Oz...
"What's it to ya'..
Anyway.
At this point one of the hapless poor individuals toward the rear, decided he really needed a comfort break and elbowed his way (skilfully) through to the front of the herd and began gesticulating wildly to the "leader", all the while pointing down at his own nether region, presumably suggesting he would be needing to put it to some legitimate use and could we all stop for a minute and may I borrow your tweezers as the breeze was very cool.... :embarrassed:
Well instead of bringing the whole heaving mass to a halt, the Top Man just looked across at the uncomfortable poor guy and while staring in the region of his crotch, gave a big thumbs up and continued on with his flock in tow.
Clearly by this time the poor bastard was about to piss himself so he eased over to the side of the road to allow the mobile garbage dump to pass, and slowed to a stop.
Considering that he might have a shy bladder, I looked away and continued on, leaving him alone to attend to his troubles. The rest of his mates continued on un deterred, and seemed to not know he had stopped.
Well 20 km down the road, the whole bunch lurched to a staggering halt and began looking around sensing someone was missing, as I rolled up behind, the Main Man was trying his best to do a head count but given that there was more than five of them, he had to have a couple of tries.
By now I'd pulled up next to our budding mathematics Professor and informed him that his mate had stopped 20 k's back as he'd tried to indicate that he needed to earlier, so our Sargent at Arms just got off the stinking junk heap he was battling with and said..
"Doesn't matter, I was stopping anyway, I'm busting for a piss"......
Well alrighty then !!!

Here's some stuff..

Hmmm... Decisions, decisions...

Okay then...We're off to see the Wizard (and so on... and...so forth....)

We're almost there !!!

Funny thing about that road...
I thought the surface would have been more "brick like"
and sort of...
"Yellower...!"

Definitely not in Kansas..

Didn't ask the name of the "little dog"
(I reckon it would have been something like a super group of established musicians from the 80's)

Back at last...
She's right I guess, there is no place like home...
Especially if it's Oz... :thumb:

I wondered where that one and only nice Aussie girl went.
Nah Dusty, have never opened the thread, but 2019 Europe could easily turn into the USA !
Last year was decided on the toss of a coin...
Leaving for an anticlockwise lap of Oz on May 9 incidentally, but my shipping guy operates out of Portland on the West coast, getting the Norge there would be a doddle...
Hmmmm...

Yes GG.
Although outwardly intimidating in appearance, I sorta' find them rather sweet and charming in their approach to riding their motorbicycles.
But they make the whole exercise look so damn tortuous as they lumber off in a cloud of smoke and shotgun pipes.
Whenever I pass a group of them lurching around a bend in the road, my Norge feels like a scalpel compared to a group of blunt axes...!

Thanks FF.
I did not think it was possible, but the old girl feels more “velvety” than before, although I’m bound to admit that is probably more in my imagination than anything else.
Something about the complete and utter lack of a chain thrashing noise though, that makes you feel like you might have done something worthwhile.
Anyway, I’m currently parked up in Bungendore having breakfast and expecting a budding young mechanic to turn up for coffee at any moment.
A right royal occasion...!
