How about the insides of them? Here is the V700 that I showed earlier, got the top end off of it. The dude I bought this from claimed that it had cast sleeves and was a fresh engine, he ran his own repair business so I figured might be OK, not!

These are the rod shells from my V700:

What you can't see, is that they're worn thinner at one edge than the other.

At some point, a "mechanic" had the timing cover off to replace the front seal and when putting the pulley hub back on, the woodruff key rotated up in the back. Either they didn't notice or didn't care and just jammed the hub on, never seating it completely. So, the crank had 1/8" + of uncontrolled end-play, the rods were binding, bearings and crank wearing weirdly. The small end bushings and pistons didn't fare very well either. Note the weird wear pattern on the crank:

Same guy that 'rebuilt' the black Eldorado we made the trade deal on last year?

I don't know Jim, it is a small world! LOFL. It wouldn't be so bad but when you reinstall junk parts and call it a fresh rebuild that to me is lying! this engine did not even have new gaskets, the base gaskets were gasket eliminator.  DonG

Must have been the same guy working on my V700. RTV instead of base gaskets, two head gaskets on one side, but only one on the other!

When say "70s V7s" I think of these...

This was my rider for a few years, 1974 disc brake model, the rarest V7 Sport.

This 73 was a one owner bike I restored 3 years ago

This was my first Guzzi in 1977

This is a 68 V7 I restored last year
