1400 Power Outlet?
« on: March 12, 2018, 10:20:33 PM »
I’m a new owner of a 2014 1400 Touring, wondering if anyone has installed a power outlet for phone charging & if so, where did you mount it? I’m just looking for some ideas.

I can't seem to locate a pic, but I got this little deal that clamps onto the handlebar. There is both a round plug as well as a USB plug. It has rubber caps and is plastic. I wired it to be always on so I could charge things when stopped. 20 bucks or so, IIRC.

I found what I put on my bike. Here is the link to the amazon listing:
https://www.amazon.com/RioRand-Motorcycle-Handlebar-Handle-Charger/dp/B00VF7HZF0/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_263_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=CAV69A4SYYNZJEBSZG13&dpID=41Exia4LyyL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=detail

Although there are many ways to do what you desire, I'll give you some food for thought. No holes have to be made in any body work. If you have a windshield or handlebar bag, you can use it while in motion to charge something, as well as when you are parked. Anyway, it has worked well for me and I didn't need to drill any holes in anything, making it very easy to undo.

Doesn't the 1400 have a cigar outlet like my Vintage? If so, a USB adapter is easily plugged into it.

Rather than hack your bike wiring, or risk running down your starting battery, how about this $30 PowerBank from Amazon:

  https://tinyurl.com/ybmcl37b

I have one being delivered today.   FOUR HOURS LATER, UPDATE:
GOODs: Unit is sturdy and the flashlight feature could come in handy on the road.
BADs: Unit is larger and heavier than any phone: 3.25" Wide, x 6.75" Long x 0.75" Thick.
"Carbon Fiber" cover is hard and slick, making it very hard to hold on to.

SPECS:
1.Portable USB charger with huge capacity:24000 mAh -your cellphone will have power for days.
2.Charge three devices (Phone, Tablet, GPS) at the same time.
3.Digital remaining-charge display. Power Bank recharges overnight from AC.
4.Dual flashlights. Portable safety and enduring talk power. Never be in darkness or out of touch, ever.

5.Warranty:2 years.

I ended up buying an adapter that attaches to the pigtail for my battery charger. About $10 & no drilling or installation issues. It works great.
