Where to Get 10W-60 oil ?
« on: March 24, 2018, 06:15:10 PM »
Got a 2017 V7 III and the owner's manual specs 10W-60 motor oil

Went looking all over for some and came up empty.  Finally found just two quarts of this.  Liters, actually.  The guy at the 7th parts store that I visited went into the back and came out and said that he didn't even know where they came from.

Does everyone just order off of the internet ?

You will find 10W60 on Amazon (Liquid Moly 10W60) and some NAPA stores carry it.  If you have a BMW (car) store nearby they use it in the M series cars.  Many other high performance cars call for 10W60.  IMHO it's worth the extra expense to use the recommended oil just for peace of mind.  Heck, you are only talking about a couple quarts every oil change.  Also, I feel OK with going well beyond the the recommended oil change interval.  Send an oil sample into Blackstone to establish when you need to change...I bet it's more than 6K miles, possibly as much as 10K.

Do you guys have Motul? In Australia its pretty much the default oil in bike shops and their 7100 is available in 10W60.

I do.  It's by far the easiest and fastest way to get it ... you can buy it in the local Honda shop, or in the BMW car shop if you want to drive to town, but easier just to have a quick-moving guy in brown shorts hand it to me at my front door, or leave it on the porch ....

Not an option in Canada, I understand, but works most other places.

I get mine on Amazon, reasonable price, 1-2 day delivery, free shipping. 7100 Motul was $49, Liquimoly was $40 for the 4 liter bottle.

Is it any different to the earlier V7 Part? Or simply more expensive?

I get Motul 10W60 from CSA, a local shop for about 50 bucks a gallon. They did not stock it but had it in 2 days. It woud be slightly easier to order off the internet but I prefer to support local shops who haven't screwed me over

I was told that Oreilly Auto Parts Stores carry the Castrol full synthetic 10W60.  Here is a link;  https://www.oreillyauto.com/shop/oil-16865/motor-oil---full-synthetic-16694/full-synthetic---10w-60-19710?q=10w60

It looks the same as the one in the Breva, at least the same design. About 10 years ago the agents wanted over $30 for one. Fortunately, Moto Kiwi on Waiheke Island only wanted less than half that for the same (Uni) filter.

Sadly, I see my stock is now down to one remaining so i guess I will find out soon what the new price is. No doubt  will flow.

Cadre Cycle sells a kit for both the 600 and 6200 mile service. Not sure how the pricing compares to buying the individual items.

That kit has spark plugs at 6200 mile service.

Does anyone replace them that quick?

Cycle Gear carries this. Meets all the specified requirements and makes my V7 happy.

https://www.cyclegear.com/accessories/motorex-power-synt-4t-engine-oil

Or you could try a KTM / Husqvarna dealer if you’re close to one, a lot of their bikes run the same oil.

Get it at BMW car dealers.  One of their older models called for 10w-60, and sometimes the BMW dealers sell Castrol 10w-60 pretty cheaply.  However the last time I went they sold me BMW branded oil w a "BMW price."
Ouch.

Anyway, it's nice to walk in and get the oil without having to order off the internet, pay shipping, etc.

I would call my local NAPA and they would get the Liquidmoly 10W60 in gallon bottles for me within a day or so to pick it up.

Funny, as in odd, story. I was going through it pretty quick when both the wife and I were running newer Guzzi's as our primary rides. The NAPA guy told me they had to order it a case at a time and they had never sold or even carried it before. I would buy two. Several months later, when I called to get it again they were always sold out. This happen more than once.
The best part of riding a motorcycle is to tilt the horizon and to lift the front coming out of a corner and to drift the back end powering thru loose dirt and to catch a little air topping a hill and... yeah it's all good!

It's not listed on Napas site anymore.
I stick with the Motul 7100 online. with some shopping you should be under $50 to the door for 4 Liters.

While I use Motul or Motorex synthetics in 50 and 60 weight varieties in my hot-running, high-output KTM 390, I have begun using this inexpensive Valvolene dino oil, on a tip from Charlie Mullendore, in my V50 and SP.  Seems ideal, due to the high ZDDP content, perfect viscosity and economical pricing for frequent oil changes.
