85/90 gear oil.
« on: April 11, 2018, 05:00:27 PM »
Having a hell of a time finding this stuff in my neck of the woods... lots of 75 or 80/90  NO 85/90. Any lube-gurus out there wanna chime in on suitability of either of these?

Yeah... I know. Hopefully it won’t ignite... for the first time in Moto-forum history. 6,000,000th time’s the charm, right?

Perfectly fine to use the commonly available 75W-90 gear oil.  I often use Mobil 1.

AF1 in Austin stocks the exact AGIP brand and weight oils recommended by the Guzzi manual, if you want to be certain.

I find mine on my front porch a couple days after I order it - 85/90.

Only had to do it once in 7 years.   Ordered 3 quarts in 2011 ..... that's plenty of time to allow for delays in shipping!

Gawd,  since the book sez change it every 6-10k mile, it really shouldn't matter.   That crap lasts a lifetime in my car.  Well 100k miles.  Prolly my lifetime.

Engine, gearbox and bevel box, every 10,000 km without fail.
Motul 7100 and Motul 80/90 with Molycote.
Only once has it ever had anything different in the engine, that was a mid ride change @ Agostini's. They squeezed me in @ 4.30 on a Thursday afternoon because " tomorrow is for sure very full up, is no possible".
I wasn't going to argue...

Yep, and if there is, it's gone. Oil is cheap. Rust never sleeps..old Neil was right.

I do the transmission and bevel box every 10,000 km or so. Engine oil about every 7500 km.

Seriously though - I do use this in V700 and Ambo four-speeds (and BMW /2 transmissions as well).
