At the beach

They’ve really cleaned up after Harvey, obviously to get ready for the tourist season, so Port Aransas is as presentable as it ever was. 

Unfortunately a closer look tells a different story.  I rode south of town past the big beach condos where we always stayed with the family - everyone is closed - thousands of rooms offline going into the peak season.  Pretty sad.

Is that because they're not ready to open yet, or because people are shying away because they've heard about storm damage and make an assumption?    Sounds like there might be bargains available ....

Not ready to open yet.  Construction crews working at most of them.  I'm going to check the status for a couple of them we've stayed at.  You could probably buy a nice condo (or used to be nice) at a reasonable price.  No clue what the fix up costs, if any, would be.  However, I would not count on staying in it until the 2019, or even the 2020 season.

For sure!  I envisioned four outcomes if I tried riding the Griso on the beach, three of which were unpleasant.

The nice ones run $250+ a night, with a Gulf view.  No clue what it would cost to buy one.

We always stayed at the Gulfstream with the view to the south.  That sounds about right, at least before the storm.
