I used all sorts including a product like the freeze off - felt like a long term project

Eventually I got her moving, not sure if it’s the best idea but I packed both holes with marine grease when reassembling.

Clutch plates look great except that they all have a huge coating of oil.  Hoping this is a simple main seal and clutch replacement.....the clutch would not disengage and grab when I decided to take it apart, assuming this is oily clutch and gummed up splines?
When we got oil on the brake shoes of old Brit bikes (similar material or not???) we would douse them with gas and set alight to it, that gets rid of most of the oil, don't know if that's acceptable in this case.

Hmmm that would be a lot cheaper than buying new discs.  They are the sureflex type, I guess they are good quality?

That sounds great! I will probably take you up on that offer if I am still stuck by next week.  I am going to try heat first, and I realized since I crabbed the frame I can at least tell which side of the bolt is stuck since one is obviously rotating with the bike.  That will cut my aggravation by (almost) half!

Took me a week to remove the front bolt from my LM3. Lots of plusgas, heat, banging with my copper hammer and rattlegunning.  Came loose in the end [emoji16]

I think if you hold one of those compressed air spray bottles - like for office work - upside down and spray, it comes out super cold. I seem to recall the machinist doing that to cool things down.

Aluminum expands more than steel, so heating the case should increase the size of the hole more than the bolt expands. However, aluminum dissipates heat extremely rapidly so it would take a lot of heat very quickly to heat it very much. Using the heat gun or torch to heat it up, then blasting with super-cooled air should create quite an effect.

I think someone here posted about using alum to remove broken studs from aluminum. If you've got the whole cover off with the only steel present being the bolt, that would be just the ticket!

Rattlegun?  Do you mean impact hammer?
