I used live next to a potato field with telephone and power lines at the far end.
I never tired of watching them, I swear they brushed the tops of the plants and missed the lines by inches.

I admire guys that *retire* from that trade. All it takes is one mistake that low to the ground.

Anyone have an idea of what was being sprayed, over what crop?
Scares me all over again; knowing what was used on potato crops back in the 50's - 60's. (northeast).  R3~

He may have come close, but that Piper is not a working ag plane. No spray-booms, pump, etc. It looks like a clean aircraft.

It was until one of the flaps came off on final...

Oops. A similar thing happened to my Dad's P-51 in 1969. He did salvage some of his radio gear. Good build on the Piper, too bad about that flap. Looks like a lot of work went into it.

Many years and 100's of flights on it, they all seem to have an expiration date.

I'll disagree with that one. It *does* take careful maintenance from someone that knows what they are doing, though.

Not at all. Airplanes  just don't have an expiration date.. unless they are plastic. Plastic airplanes are life limited. Conventional aircraft can be rebuilt many times, and many are. There are many 80 year old airplanes that are perfectly airworthy..
For instance, here is a one off Curtis (yes, that Curtis)   racer the Kid is restoring. It will be better than new..

Any airplane is only as good as the last guy that signed it off, though.. back in the day, I'd get in about anything and go. Not any more.
