Benelli 180 Enduro

I picked up a 1972 Benelli 180 Enduro yesterday, its in very nice original condition with low miles on the odometer. I have never heard of a 180, plenty of information on a 175 Benelli Enduro, I assume its identical, maybe just a marketing thing by Cosmopolitan to have it stand out above the Japanese 175 class.







Tank, exhaust and seat are real nice, even had the extra length of chain and link plus the tools in the cloth bag in the gas tank compartment.







Anyone know anything about this model?

Very nice, hope you'll clean it up sympathetically and post photos.

Same gas cap as an SP or CX100...

Seat on this one appears slightly shorter:

We had a Benelli dealer near us (sort of) at the time but I don't recall that model.

Looks like a great find!   Careful with the stump-jumping, though, that fender/taillight combination has "Metal Fatigue" written all over it .... !

I am cleaning the bike up, going through it one part at a time, found a broken exhaust support bracket, welded it back up, vapour blasted the exhaust and painted it with header paint



I pulled the head and cast iron cylinder, the cylinder is real clean and smooth but the piston had scoring narks on it and the gudgeon pion circlips where replaced with snap rings at one time,



Maybe the previous owner was running too weak a mixture of oil in the fuel? Perhaps this was why the bike has under 900 miles on it??

I have given a sympathetic detailing, vapour blasted what could be easily removed, soaked the plated bits in ACF50, painted the cylinder and header and replaced some fasteners that where just too rusted with stainless. I touched up the rusty bits on the frame with POR-15 gloss black after cleaning the rust off.

cleaned up the shocks, sprockets and wheels





Tank is soaking in Evaporust, it needs some wheel bearings and brake shoes and the cables should be replaced along with fuel lines and a new battery. I ordered some new foot peg and lever rubbers and the decal on the gas tank is reproduced so I ordered one of those, just polish up the paint a little and this is how it will stay. Next time I get some chrome done I may re-plate the shock springs, they are the only plated bits that are rusted.

Its a cute little thing and fits in with my other Italian oddities, next spring it should be some fun to buzz around on. For the $1500 USD it cost me I think its one of the better buys I have made!

The one I just brought home is going to need a just a *little* more work than Jim's. But, since all it cost me was approx. $70 in gas, I can spend a few $$ on it.  :wink:

I had one of those about 7 or 8 years ago...biggest concern in my case were the original, petrified tires (like so many of them have). You'll probably want to address that...
