Got the armature back yesterday and set it up on the lathe.  Consistent bright sparks!  now just have to get engine back together...

The armature looks very much like an early Lucas
It may be similar to early Lucas, but pictures suggest most similar to Bosch rotating coil.  Unlike Lucas, the Marelli doesn't need bearing insulators and doesn't have a face cam, so not as finicky about bearing play.  Rewinder said it required a different set-up than the Lucas - so a one-off job.

Take it to get the magnets recharged tomorrow!
