measuring squish and threebond in place of gasket

Hi all,
Got a spare 1100 engine on the bench.
Squish measured at .070 -.074
optimum is .040 or so I've read
Means I can lose a bit of cylinder height
I measured the base gasket at .025
Can I use threebond in place of the base gasket?
And will it get my squish near enough, or should I be looking at milling the cylinders?
Cheers

Yep, that's the "quick and dirty" way to do it and it works well. I used some flange sealant by Locktite but Threebond is good stuff too.

Was the squish not in spec originally? Did you measure with the head torqued down ? Just curios. Perhaps thinner head gaskets are available.

If you drop the cylinder be sure there is not excessive wear on the bores or a ridge at the top of the piston travel. It is better to plane the head as it wont change the wipe area of the bores. I don't know what the spec is for squish on the 1100s but .070 doesn't seem extreme. I would run it see how it goes. Easy enough on a guzzi to pull the heads and plane them it you get a lot of pinging. ( detonation)
