We live in Lancaster County Amish Country, home of the Amish, Smorgasbords, Shoe fly pie, Potato chips, Soft Pretzels, Covered Bridges, Conestoga wagon, Pennsylvania long rifle, York Barbell, Harley Davidson York factory, birthplace of Robert Fulton (invented steamboat), Farmland and ...Horse Poop on the roads! Great backroad riding but BEWARE of that slippery stuff on the roads!
My wife and I love your part of the country and try and visit there at least every 2-3 years. We always eat at GOOD AND PLENTY restaurant and take a carriage ride through the country. We hope to get up this spring and maybe we can get together and break bread together:)

Newton, KS is 10 miles south of my place. It was on the Chisholm Trail and a railhead for cattle for a year in 1871 with a hell raising reputation that made Dodge City and Tucson look like church camps. In 1871 a gunfight in Hide Park (Supposably got that name from the girls "showing so much hide there") left eight dead. Remember that was with cap & ball pistols. The railroad stayed however and made Newton a viable town. Current Pop. is 19,000.GliderJohn
Good and Plenty is just that. Next time you're in Lancaster County, try eating at Shady Maple smorgasbord in Blue Ball. But make sure you're starving because it is H U G E !!!
