V7II sidestand

Interesting thing happened today.

When I tried to put the side stand down it was STUCK!! No downward movement at all and ended up bending the stand foot lever trying.

Had a binding issue before but not this bad. My dealer adjusted it at that time and has been fine...up till now.

Per the manual it is a simple bolt through stand design. Tried to loosen the assembly and seemed that it was not going to budge.

Going to Elk Grove Powersports tomorrow to have them look at it again.

Good excuse for a ride anyway!!

Just wondering if any else has had this problem?

Mine do it occasionally - catch on the centre stand - I just boot the centre stand a bit, and it frees up. If you don't have one of those, then I'm in the dark.

Have you tried lubricating the pivot?

Mine hasn't bound up but was so sloppy I was surprised .I checked a few other V7 II's @ dealer and they were also similar! So took it apart ,figured the slop & made a shim to fit in. As I noticed the lack of any kind of slippery stuff in there & in the shifter mechanism too! Once again disassemble  & lube ,I also installed a grease fitting on shifter pivot then did similar stuff to brake linkage on right side.i was a bit annoyed at first ,but that the difference between a bike built to a different price point. All in all  still love mine , great bones just a few niggles! Only 12k mi. So far and more smiles than miles

I have noticed that my side stand become hard to push out. After some thin oil it worked again. My bike is only two years old and should not show such problems. Now I will put some oil into the bearings now and then to keep it working.

When I check the oil I put a drop or two off of the dip stick on the side stand pivot.  Clean the dip stick!  The Synth oil takes very little and makes the side stand work perfectly!!  I was very surprised at the trick working!

Went to Elk Grove Powersports (CA) today and had the stand looked at.

Yes, it was lack of lubrication on my part that caused the issue. On my V11's never really thought about putting some grease/oil/yak fat on the side stand pivot because it never gave me a problem!

Now every oil change I will clean and grease the pivot.

Elk Grove Powersports covered the repair under warranty even though it was my fault. I was prepared to pay the bill but instead they reminded me just to lube it as per the owners manual. Guess I missed that!

They even went through and did a check of brake pad thickness, lubed the brake and foot peg pivots and generally went through and gave her a check up. All without being asked. Even cleaned my mirrors!!

It's nice to have such a great dealer just 45 minutes away. Yes I could have figured this problem out myself (eventually!) but gave me an excuse to go for a ride that didn't end at work!!

Good news. Good dealer.

I think you might be forgiven for not finding instructions in the manual, I don't think they are in there - at least not in any V7 manual I've read. Which is why I was surprised when I found detailed instructions in a Breva 750 Owners Manual - specifies grease, either the usual Agip stuff or a good quality bearing grease with waterproof qualities.

Note that the pivot is a bolt, which moves in a hole in the steel tab welded to the bottom frame rail. Continued use (& perhaps misuse?) may wear the hole oval & cut ia groove into the bolt's body.  And to access it, the header pipe will need to be removed.

Same thing with my 2016. What kind of oil did you use? I was thinking of using lithium grease on it because that’s what I have lying around. Would that be okay to use?

Should be fine. To get grease on properly, you'll have to take it apart - which means the muffler & header off. A bonus is that the exhaust nuts get loosened & you avoid their tendency to seize on the studs. I've found that any spray on stuff (silicone, lithium, lanolin, chain wax, etc) or drip on machine oil works fine for a while. You've just got to keep it up. I do the V7 Special when it starts getting stiff, The V7C more often because of the ovalled pivot hole.
