Oh yes! The Riedel Imme! Norbert Riedel was the Engineer who made the 2 cylinder two-stroke boxer starter engine for the Jumo turbines of the Messerschmitt Me 262 (yes, there were two strokes built into the front of the engine housings!). He was a good engineer, not so much a businessman.

Wow! Art deco styling. Nice. I think that I saw one of these at Riding thru History at World Golf Village one year.

Yes it is.  "Thanks for posting." he said as he hastily scribbled in his wish list.

That's amazing. The swingarm is also the exhaust, the engine is cantilevered on the forward extension of the swingarm, and the carburetor is protected inside the engine case.

Unfortunately they had to be started manually with a recoil starter.  My late friend Hans Busch was a test pilot for the 262 toward the end of the war and told the story of having a flame out on one engine during the run-up before take off, having to get out of the plane, pull the recoil starter, get back in and get the engine running again.  Onward into the wild blue yonder.  Exciting times.

That´s the funny thing! There is the most advanced aeroplane of the time and you have it to start the same way I had to do back in time with our Glasspar Lido boat with its two 18 hp Evinrude Fastwins.

Not the same thing ....... but have you seen old video of a squadron of ME-109s scrambling?  The ground crew of each plane is seen cranking an inertia starter up to speed before it can be engaged to the DB engine to start.

Hey- the Dromader M-18 I used to fly had an inertial starter. At least it had an electric motor to wind it up. That big radial started every time, once you knew the drill.

If one made a list...there are so many cool, little 100cc bikes still out there!  This is one of all time favorites from Japan.

Never owned one, but always LUSTED after one as a skinny teenager!!  The legendary Hodaka Ace 100!! :thumb:

The Imme has been @ the top of my list since mid 40's? I saw one @ the Guggenheim Muse`, when it passed thru NYC. (I have a Gilera CX125 sssa, ssfork). The Imme is the epitome of elegant, minimalist motorcycle design.

Anyone here recall early French Jet engines (50-60's), started with what seemed to be a knee sock filled w/black powder? "We don't need no stinking APU".  R3~

Not only seen on videos, but of course also in nature. Well of course not a squadron, but some of the surviving BF-109 with DB 605 are still started with the crank.
