2020 Vision..(a picture is starting to form..)
« on: December 16, 2018, 10:16:54 PM »
Well, alrighty then...!
Monies have been paid for Europe 2019 on the Norge for London, Calais, Constanta (Romanian Coast Black Sea), Turkey, Greece, Albania, Croatia, Italy, France, Spain, France, London...
That should keep me out of trouble..
Mandello del Lario 2021 is a slam dunk, you could hit a tennis ball from Agostini's to my accomodation, so that's locked in...
But here's the thing..
Your Grandma could ride from Calais to Nordkapp on a Norge or GS, it's really a bit of a non event, too bloody easy, the Aussie term is "piece of piss", (that's a bit coarse so I won't use it)...
But fortunately an alternative is at hand...!

Now the eagle eyed among y'all, will have noticed that I have inserted two images of a Honda CT110 and a scale shot of a rather large island continent, for those that do not have a good grasp of geography, I'll let you off the hook.
It's Australia.

Now here's the plan...

The idea is in 2020, to load the poor little Postie Bike, (see the reference..?), with enough gear to sustain life for about 20 riding days, because that's about twice as long as I reckon it'll take to ride from the Southern most point of the Mainland (Cape Otway), to the Northern most point (Cape York).
Now the good news is that it's "only" 4,000 km by ummmm.."road", from said Southern most point to Northern most, but the not so good news is that the trip involves a return in the opposite direction.
Now before you reach for your trusty abacus, I'll do the sums..
It's 8,000 km..!
But I reckon 110 cc's of thundering Honda engine should make light work of such a seemingly daunting task.
As mentioned on another post, I was a Postie for 37 years on identical bikes to these (more or less) and that adds up to 370,000 km in first and second gear delivering mail, so I have acquired a rudimentary knowlege of what it takes to sit on one for a "long" time.
I've done a long trip on the bike and find that 70 k's an hour is a nice speed whilst travelling along riding one handed drinking a coffee and eating a pie.
Here's the good bit..

Anyone wanna' join me..?

I'm totally convinced that it's beyond the capability of most Northern Hemisphere "tourers" but if you want to back up some of the claims that were made in the "Riding in Solitude" post, I'll organise the bike from this end, you'll sure as shit get all the "solitude" you'll ever want on this trip.
I just hope I don't pick up an American accent, listening to all the chatter from the participants, I'm fairly confident I'll be safe in that regard.
Ok, I'm strapped in..
Here we go...!
I fully expect that it'll take an Aussie to put his/her hand up first but I'm open to surprises.

I KNOW that you've got the balls FG..!
Why not ship it over..?
The trip itself will cost 3/5 th's of 5/8 th's of S.F.A.
How satisfying do you think it'd be to honour his memory in that way ?
Any bastard that did not shed a quiet tear at the Top, staring at the Torres Strait with the little bike beside you, would have to be a heartless turd..!

I'm in. All I ask is a photo with my name in it in return.

Hi HUZO,

Let’s start the planning.

Cheers,

Anthony
No planning required Carlo.
Buy the best CT 110 you can, give it any head work it needs, rings and cam chain, and clutch if required and bingo.!
Let's meet somewhere soon on the Guzzies and we'll hatch a fiendish plot.
I am definitely in regardless.
I will collect your bike in my Hilux and we'll take both to Cape Otway.
My partner Ann will piss off with the Toyota and we're on our own...
Simples...!

I'm not across these type of things.
Are you suggesting you'll contribute to Foto Guzzi's page ?
I'll contribute if you guys are serious..
He is the best I have seen at documenting trips in images. It would be a great thread for WG. I could also contribute in reports but can't see why I'd be needed.
