This is the year and style of what I learned to drive on growing up on the farm. Not much plastic to be found.

I’m finding many folks under the age of 30 have no clue about how to drive such a vehicle. Both my daughters had to teach their boy friends / husband how to drive a clutch. That wouldn’t have occurred when this Mans Truck rolled off the line. Alas the good ol days.

Love old vintage trucks like that!! :thumb:

Fast forward to 2019, where one can have a "custom" truck built like this for between $160,000-$330,000      (...seen at the annual Barrett-Jackson car auction a week ago) - - "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous!"

Nice!  I leaned more Ford, or Dodge, but I do really miss the old real trucks... that reminds me... I really need to dig out the old 74 powerwagon I got sitting out back....

Up until '99 when I bought my 'yota my main rig was a '56 Chevy truck, 3 on the tree, 6 banger. The vacuum wipers were a real treat. Sold it and paid for most of the '99 Toyota with air, power windows, even FM!!

Back when a GMC was more than a rebadged Chebby.
And I don't get the perceived "need" for all the electronic geegaws that do nothing more than provide a distraction.

Man I don't know , having driven those old trucks fro, 1970 until about 1981 , there is know way I am going back to those things with no brakes , no A/C , windshield wipers that only kinda work , rag joints in the steering mechanism that when worn out make the steering , er , vague , ball joints that pop out , tie rod end that break (I have a story about that) , and rode like a buck board .

Oh , forgot to mention how the shift linkages would stick in one gear requiring a blow from a hammer . Yep , the good old days .

A crusty old farmer neighbor when I was growing up had an early 50s Ford PU. It has the cover in the floor to get access to the master cylinder. He left the cover off and used the hole to to spit his chewing tobacco. When he later upgraded to a 60s vintage he cut a hole in the floor since it no longer came with one.

The brake was the pedal in the middle.
WWs worked fine, a good reminder not to lug the engine.
Vent windows were better than AC.
Someone should have told you to grease the balljoints.
Rides like a truck, cuz that's what it was.
The pedal to the left was used for shifting and starting/stopping

I traded in my 1988 F250, straight 6, 5 speed manual, bench seat, that rode like it had concrete in the tires, air con barely worked, for a new 2013 F150 with, not quite all the geegaws, but a lot of amenities. I have no desire to go back. I do a lot of traveling in my trucks and this new vehicle is quite a pleasure to drive.

Hah! B.S. Vehicles have always been seen as status symbols for their owners... Shoeboxes full of fading photos of preening young dudes with their shiny trucks are proof positive.

Hell, my dad *Still* talks about their canary yellow Chev pick up truck in the 50s. Sure, it was used for work... but it was *absolutely* a point of pride.

Dunno , my Nissan will do more real work than any of the '50's Chevy trucks I owned , and I don't have to deal with those silly canister oil filters . Oh, and the brake pedal is still in the middle

The sound of those doors closing. The overall solid feel of them. All good memories. I'd love to get my hands on an old 60s or 70s truck, just for banging around the grid roads and tinkering on.

In a perfect world, it'd be an even older Willys Pickup... but those don't pop up for sale too often. I have fond memories of bouncing around in a old Willys as a kid.

Nostalgia is a beautiful thing but at every Guzzi event I  go to, hardly a carburetor can be found, much less from a time zone away.

I don't get the carb hate. We used them for decades... a well tuned carb works just fine, across time zones even.

I learned to drive in a GMC 6 x 4 truck.  The farmer we did haymaking for had bought some war surplus stuff.  Including the GMC, he also had a couple of Canadian built Foird V8 pickups.  Fun times. :thumb:

The old bike is my hobby, not the truck. I can load the bike in the new truck and ride to Colorado in air conditioned comfort and still feel like riding : )
