Mexico hwy 5, south heading south of San Filipe Baja, this was all new highway last year, hurricane wiped out 9 bridge approaches and kilometres of pavement. No barricades just rocks piled up at each side and one orange cone. When they say don’t ride in Mexico at night they mean it!! Other than some long stretches of gravel it is a beautiful ride all the way down and a the people are wonderful.

One more pic of Baja Mexico Highway 5, last years hurricane took out an entire bridge over a wash to the Sea of Cortez. Nature is an amazing force.
I finished a 16 day tour of the Baja peninsula. There are many amazing motorcycle sections on highway 1. Very little traffic on the highways. I found the Baja to be safe, the people friendly and presence of military and police checkpoints reassuring. Pemex gas stations are plentiful throughout and take credit cards. Clean accommodation can be found in most all towns. Beaches are pristine and down south the water is warm. California Grey Whales give birth on the west coast in sheltered lagoons and whale watching is excellent. I stayed out of Cabo San Lucas, many better places to stay without all the crowds and junky tourist stuff. Only caravans I saw were groups of motor homes heading south.

Yikes! Watching the road surface is a great strategy!
Cool report. I've only been as far as Bahia de Los Angeles on the west and San Felipe on the east (and on 4 wheels), but both were great times!
