New Moto Guzzi Door Mats Available Now
I wonder how...
Since it seems most at Mathews were surprised to hear they were sold, they (Mathews) very likely no longer have a say in the matter. It's up to the new owners to either say yes or no to Guzzi bikes and service. Since it's been posted the new owners haven't made a commitment to Piaggio, I'd say current Guzzi owners need to find another place for service. Perhaps the new owners will pony up to become an authorized Guzzi dealer. "Basic Maintenance" on a Moto Guzzi isn't much different from many other motorcycles. Meaning it's straightforward and relatively easy. Area owners will either have to do it themselves or find an independent repair shop. The latter, for a Moto Guzzi, could prove difficult. Likely the biggest local hurdle is if you need EFI software updates and insist on a dealer for it. Thankfully, the aftermarket is typically a better option anyway.Dealers come and go, not just for Guzzi, for just about all motorcycle brands. It's a very difficult motorcycle business climate today. Even more so with slow moving inventory and brands. Someone will step up and service and maybe even sell new Guzzis. I'm sure Piaggio is doing what they can to bring on another dealer in the area. You should know soon whether or not the new owners bought the Guzzi inventory or if it will be sent elsewhere. It's a simple question that only needs to be asked.
Please find out what their plans are for the inventory. They had a Nero Gentleman 1400 last time I was there and I'd love to steal that one!
What is a "Nero Gentleman 1400"?
It's a Touring model with a similar paint scheme to the '98 EVs. I saw one at the WNY rally a couple of years ago and later when I was in Matthews.
kustomwerks in Buffalo is dumping Guzzi. They have one 2017 bike in that color new on closeout.
I'm off to Matthews to pick up my Guzzi. It's been sleeting here since before lunch. Grrr. I hate Charlotte traffic on a good day.
Just got off the phone. They are transferring all calls to Matthews now to Team Charlotte, the new owners. Doors are closed and new inventory is being moved. I ask about Guzzi and the response was "not at this time." The person I talked with needed to talk with Tee, who will still be working for them, about my deposit, bike, and my riding gear. They were all blindsided at Matthews about the deal.
Just a FYI my name is Chuck and I am the owner of Privateer Connection in Rock Hill, SC. We are not a OEM dealer however the tech that did all the Guzzi work at Mathews Fun Machines is now working here at Privateer Connection. We can't do any OEM warranty work but we will gladly help with any service and repair work. Feel free to call myself or Nick and we will help you any way we can. We are open M-F 9-6 and our shop number is 803-980-7200
Dang... that's a horrible way to sell a business, and an even worse way to tell the employees. And I agree, that kind of treatment would not endear me to the new management.
This is just another example of dealers dropping the marque. It happens all the time. Maybe a factor is low profit margins, low volume, and cheap ass customer who never see a dealer again until they need major works. One measure dealers use is dollars earned per square foot of showroom floor, Guzzi loses. Another is new product turn over, Guzzi loses Another profit per model in the shop...…. again Guzzi loses. I remember when there were dealers that sold only Guzzi, as far as I know none are left, seems they were able to sustain profitability. Pissed and making a scene at Matthews accomplishes nothing except burn a bridge you may need some day, and it'll say a lot about your character and style.Word may spread to other dealerships in the area. Makes no sense to me, seems childish and immature. Dealer have the right to accept or reject any repair work however manufactures require dealer to perform warranty work on the brands they sell. Paul

So, Moto Guzzi buyers are the problem? That is about as short sighted a view as the new owners on MFM dealership.
