Beautiful pictures, most likely as close as I'm going to get to seeing those places.

Other than Ruapehu and Egmont/Taranaki, sadly I am afraid I am in the same boat Dan.

I get to tour these places through Daniel's photo essays. :thumb:

A funny story about the Gloss Mountains in Oklahoma , which are technically mesas .

Anyway , depending on whether you believe the sign on the highway or the sign in the park or on a map , they are either the *Glass* Mountains or the *Gloss" Mountains . So why the confusion you ask ? Seems as though during the national geodetic survey circa 1870 , a survey crew headed by an Englishman was camped just East of the mesas that make up the geographic feature . The area is covered in selenite crystals which are shiny like glass when struck by sunlight , which is exactly what the Englishman said , "look , they are shiny like gloss" , or that's what the expeditions' secretary heard , in reality he was saying *glass* . Anyway , the secretary wrote gloss , while the Englishman recorded glass in his notebook . Now some 150 years later the debate still rages , glass or gloss ?

Another great photo essay, thanks! I was pleasantly surprised by how many of the mountains I have seen or been to. I did view Etna a smoking one year but the view was somewhat limited through a periscope.

Thanks Daniel

There are some hills in Kansas , it's just that the plains states all go uphill from East To West meaning the highest point is in the West , which is the flat part .

A real cure for the winter blues! I grew up near Tulsa. Don't remember Oklahoma mountains, a few hills, maybe. Then again, I probably wasn't paying as much attention then as I would now.

Today: the southwest (unskiable) face of Aspen Mountain, seen from the top of Aspen Highlands (around 11,500 ft) as a storm moves in from Independence Pass.
