Uploading Posting Images Pictures merged threadfest
« on: December 19, 2012, 09:51:01 AM »
With the removal of the photo uploader from the forum a third party hosting website will need to be used to host your pictures and then you just need to link them to your post to get them to appear.

Honestly, this was the only forum I'm a part of that was still offering a photo uploader as part of the forum so I've been using Photobucket for a number of years when posting pictures.

It is clear that not everyone has a handle on how to post pictures using a site such as Photobucket so I decided to put together a short tutorial.  It would be nice if those of you who use something other than Photobucket, such as Smugmug, Flickr, etc., would post up some instructions for those if desired as I have no experience with them.

This is my way of working with Photobucket, they seem to change the site every so often and I have to learn a new way and there may be quicker ways to do things but this is the way I know and it works.

Log into your photobucket account and then click on your library tab.

You main album will come up with all of your sub-albums shown to the right.  I've made a mess of my albums and would like to reorganize but I believe that doing so will break the links to all the pictures I have out there and I hate when I go through a thread and the pictures all show they've been removed.  Anyway, we're going to go to the Guzzi album so I'll just click on that.

Your album will open and you'll see all your pictures as thumbnails.  If you mouse over the pictures you'll see a sprocket appear in the upper right corner of the picture.  Click on that sprocket.

When you click on the sprocket you'll have a small information window pop up.  Click on the Get Media Links option.

Your window will go black and you'll get a new information box that comes up in the middle of the screen.  To post a picture to the forum just click on the link at the bottom of the box showing the IMG code.

When you click the link you'll see in the box that it shows copied.  This means that this link is now on your clipboard and all you need to do is paste into the your message on the forum, I use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl V.  When you copy this you'll see the link come up in your post with IMG on either side of it, if you click the Preview button instead of the Post button you'll be able to see what your actual post will look like and the picture should come up.  In my case I spent a bit of time cropping these pictures in Photobucket but when I preview them I see the uncropped version; sometimes I hate photobucket.

If you click on the photo in your album the picture will enlarge and on the lower right corner of the screen you'll see the same options as if you had clicked the get media links from the sprocket.  Again you can just click on the IMG code link which will copy it to your clipboard so that you can paste it into your message.  This is also an option if you are in another person's photobucket public page and I used this in a different thread on this forum to post some pictures in a thread for which we were only seeing the link to the OP's photobucket album.

If you've got any questions I'll try to answer them.  I am in no way a Photobucket expert but I've been using it for a few years now and know how to post my pictures.

Photobucket rocks even the free account, I out grew the free one a couple of years ago and signed up for the yearly paid account which give you practically unlimited space with multiple albums to share or not to share.

Thanks for this.

You can post just about any photograph that you have or find on the web.  Just paste the url in your post, begin the url with the tag "img" in brackets (no quote marks) and end it with "/img' in brackets (no quote marks).  Make sure you don't put any spaces between the url and the "img" tags.

Since this forum does not appear to automatically re-size photographs, you should try not to post larger than 800 x 600. (Caveat: unless you are purposely trying to post something to be shared as wallpaper or a screen saver image; in that case, you probably want to post at 1024 x 768.)  If the image you want to share is bigger than that, it can't easily be viewed on most devices. There is free software that can be used to re-size images.  Once the image is re-sized, you can put it into something like photobucket, and post it here as described.

Now, does anybody know how to embed YouTube videos here, or is that feature not available?  I've tried posting them several different ways, and can never get this to work.  All I can manage is to post links.

Ive tried as well it either can't be done here or you have to know the secret code to do it.

Pixresizer is an excellent free, easy and nag free program to re-size pictures.  It can be found at varies sites to download but here is the Cnet link which is always reliable and virus free.

I've tryed unsuccessfully to use Photobucket in the past.  I was just getting ready to post pictures of the installation of a Rostra Cruise Control on my Stelvio NTX.  Now I can't do that unless I can get P'bucket figured out.  Unfortunately, for some reason I am not able to print off your instructions and will have to hand copy them.

I have them as a PDF and can email the presentation to you if you would like.  Just shoot me a PM with your email address.

I find postimage.org very easy to use for single pics uploads if you can live with the "click on image to---" and the ads. (This is also the one that WG used before ?)
Just browse your computer and upload the image that you want. Re-size option is also there. This picture is uploaded with 1280x1024,- for "19 inch monitors" as it says.
Then just copy the image to your clipboard and paste it into the WG forum`s message box. I used "Thumbnail for Forums 1" for this image.
(I use an iMac, and I don`t know if it will be different with a PC though)

I've followed this procedure and can get the information from Photobucket pasted in the text of the message, but when I click on "Post" all I get is a small box with a "Red X" in it.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Edit:

[img][/img]

I had the pictures listed as "Private".  Making them "Public" helped.  Let me try again.

When you establish a PhotoBucket account, your stored pictures are available to the public by default.  However, you can modify settings and make the pictures 'private' so that only you can see them.  Did  you perhaps alter your privacy settings within the photobucket account?  Can you grab the same link from PhotoBucket and paste it into an email?  send it to me, pehayes@comcast.net

OK I give up! As a publisher by trade working in Photoshope or on the computer in general is what I do. I know I saw a post here but did not pay attention to it about "How To Post Your Pics" I mean it was so easy you just clicked on the wording that said the same? Now since that time the wording is gone, I went to HELP (developing a head-ache) as I tried to make sense of all of it? If you have the time PLS tell me what has changed and how do I post pics.......I am holding my head N shame to have to ask this!

PS: just out of curiosity WHY was the process changed....inquirin g mind would like to know?

Regards & THX N Advance

You have to host it some where else - like on a photo website.

Then you have to put the LINK (it's called the ADDRESS/URL) to that photo in the proper tags [img ]http:// and [/img ]  <--- no spaces in the tags.

You can FIND the link by right clicking and looking under Properties when looking at any pic on the internet (including the one you uploaded to a photo website).

When posting on WG, there's a shortcut that puts those image tags on the page. It is below the Subject and Message Icon lines, in the bottom of the 2 rows of icons, second from the left - looks like a PICTURE IN A FRAME.

That help?

To see what it all looks like - try right clicking this photo and take a look at the link/URL

Next, try hitting QUOTE to this post - you'll see the link and tags.

The image uploader was dropped because it posted some questionable spam, and maybe a Trojan or something like that. You'll have to get an account like Photobucket, upload your picture there, get the [IMG] file, and paste it into your post. Easy peasey.

Looks like Kev beat me to it.. ;D

Sign up for Photobucket (or one of the others).
Upload your photos to Photobucket.
When you view you Photobucket photo, there is a box to 'share' the photo. Click on that and it will copy the link to the photo.
Come here and paste that link into a message. make sure you have the "[img]" and "[/img]" around the link.

Hey folks. Sorry, I'm sure the answer's here elsewhere- but what's the most straightforward way of inserting a pic in a post. Do you just copy & paste the url from a photo site? How about phone pics? Thanks!
