Re-setting the service wrench icon on the V85's
« on: March 03, 2024, 09:44:42 AM »
I know this topic comes up often and curious if any DIY'ers who do their own service have figured out a way yet to re-set the wrench icon or if the dealer is still the only way to do it?

I've never heard of anyone successfully re-setting the wrench without a trip to the dealer.

If you want more detail on that device, this is it before GTM remove the branding:
https://www.duonix.com/Bike-Scan-2-Pro-for-Moto-Guzzi

Order it with the Euro5/ISO19689 cable option to use on Euro5 bikes.

Has anyone tried it on a V85? Does it do multiple bikes ( I ask because I use a bmw device that logs the vin numbers )

It mentions in the description that it does V85, and the GTM thread on the device also says it does. The license appears to be based on brand, so if you buy it with license for Moto Guzzi it will work on the Moto Guzzis listed and is not bound to VIN like say a DynoJet tuner product might be. There is also a global version that is licensed for all the supported makes and models.
https://www.duonix.com/Bike-Scan-2-Pro-Global-Version_1

A nice thing about THIS forum is that it is not run by a store selling parts. On the GTM forum you would be prohibited from discussing finer details of products in a way that might detract from their sales.

Would be nice to have a more reasonable solution. With only averaging 1 dealer per state, this is not a good thing for Piaggio to limit this. Should be an easy reset option in the screen....You know, like almost every other brand.

That strategy takes away from the term discussion. As long as I'm here, we'll never operate that way.

I started visiting GTM when I got my V100 as there was quite a bit of discussion about this new model. There is a substantial amount of toxicity on that forum. I almost deleted the bookmark yesterday due to another one of Todd's tantrums. If he reads this which I doubt because of the derogatory remarks he has made about this great forum. A few months ago I needed a set of front brake pads for my V7lll due to a leaking fork seal resulting in oil contamination. There was a set on the site at a reasonable price, around $30 if I remember correctly. Shipping was $25. Huh? For a measly set of brake pads. I went to EBC. As an aside, the front brake on my V7 was pretty darn good stock, but I think maybe a bit better with the EBC pads. FWIW  the leak was self inflicted no fault of MG.

Many other manufacturers have also been pushing "bring it to a dealer" for years. For Moto Guzzi it's an even worse idea because of the lack of dealers.
Either way I am a right to repair advocate. Manufacturers should make the tools, documentation, and data *reasonably* available to consumers and 3rd party repair shops. Reasonably available means they can still charge for it like Honda with their crazy shipping markup on Helm manuals. Ideally though the service indicator should be able to reset using the bike's own controls and screen navigation. If you're locked out of working on your vehicle then you don't really own it.

I mentioned Todds tool cause folks here think it's not doable. It IS just not cheap. One reason I won't buy or ride such crap they make. I like motorcycles not cars w/2 wheels, don't need the crap they sell these days.

Ok I gotta ask!  How hard is it to actually reset the service light using one of these?  Will it work on a 2021 v7 850 centenario?  Stupid questions but I’m not an electrical genius.

Bob, plug it in to bike & push a few buttons & your done. It is just like canceling errors on the dash of my 2000 Jeep.
Say's it works on your bike.

i wonder if its just me ???

the wrench is on my V7.  and i don't care. I know it's been serviced. I am am certainty NOT going to fork over $800 to turn a light off.
the low tire light is on in my jeep. and i don't care.  Im not goin to break down a sealed tire just to replace the sender,  I do own a tire gage.

I saved this message a while back, haven't tried it yet.

V7 Maint message:

To reset; While holding the left "dashboard" button down, turn the ignition on, then off. Voilà! It's gone.

IIRC it works on all Heron Head models through the V7II, they changed the dashes with the Hemi Head models (V9 and V7III).

I can't believe the controversy over the little tool light for needing service. Mine's been on since about a week after the first service. I know it was serviced and I have a piece of paper that says it was. I suppose I could be flirting with disaster as it could mean something is wrong. All the fluids are correct, tire pressures are good and it runs great (seemingly getting better every mile).

Only for the OCD affected does it bother.  It is a tiny little thing.  But if my bike ever finds it way back to Cadre one day I will have it reset./

For the record, no it can't/doesn't, it's not a malfunction indicator light. It is literally nothing more than a preprogrammed maintenance reminder based on distance.

While "ignoring" the service light is an option for some (not me) has anyone ever tried to SELL a motorcycle with the service light on? I can't imagine many buyers would be very impressed. They'll say "as soon as you get that light fixed, let me know."

we reset them for free, anytime we are open, no appt needed.  Just stop in.   We've trained almost everyone here how to do it.

Plug in, connect to dash module (not ECU), reset wrench, done.

MotoGP comes to Austin next month, time to make a road trip.
