So an add poped up on my WG feed advertising motorcycle bags, and I bit. Specifically the "Leg bags". Pretty cool idea. Sale going on, might try it out. Keeps stuff readily available. Never been a tank bag kinda guy.

I bought a pair of saddle bags from Franco Cuoio. Super high quality stuff from Italy. Fast shipping and good communication. Anyhow, poking around on their site the other day I found this: https://www.francocuoio.it/prodotto/66-femoral-bag-black/ and, like you, I figure it may be an excellent way to not use a backpack or a tank bag but still carry some gear. Just FYI.

To big and heavy. I've just taken to wearing cargo pants in California because you have to be able to get to your Toll Fee quickly.
For my trips out of state riding leathers or mesh have been fine because I haven't run into any tolls in Nevada, Utah, Oregon or Arizona.

Where do you ride in CA that requires you to pay tolls?
I only encounter one, that's in Los Angeles, and you can go to their online site afterwards and pay it.

I've been riding and carrying stuff forever and this is the first time I've ever seen something called a "Leg Bag".
I assume it's a New Thing, cause if it wasn't, it would have been in "Honda of Mineola" adverts in 1971 "Cycle" magazine.
They sure do look bulky and clumsy to me. I think they won't be a "thing" for long ...

Well we’ll soon see. Its not that big.
-
I won't even ride with anything in my standard outfit (Dainese) pockets. Extra cargo leaves extra dents on your person when you crash. I just want to hit the pavement and slide free of encumbrances, snags and protrusions until my inertia is spent.

I agree. A Leatherman would leave quite a mark when you hit the pavement.
I've tried backpacks and messenger bags, but I've concluded to let the bike carry the load, and I'll control the bike ....

You don't have to use it while riding, I think it might be a nice holder for my Ruger.

so we're talking about fanny packs? really?

So now they have a purse for my leg? A Lurse? Complete with fringe and silver farkles! Ah, that's a no.

I was looking at the ad link in the pub just now and one of my gay neighbors who was walking by glanced over, threw his arm around me and pointed at the leg bag with the chains and crap on it and said 'Divine!'. It just confirmed what I'd been thinking to myself!

Pete, LMAO!
Cam,
Though I wouldn't buy one, I can see how it would be useful. There is a guy pictured next to a bike that has no place to carry things. Things like gloves, small tool kit/leatherman, ect.. When I was a kid riding my bicycle to go fishing, I used a small military surplus bag with a belt to carry my stuff. Sorta looked like one of these. My HD had no place to put the things like I mentioned. Something like this or that could be strapped somewhere and then carried easily with me would have been nice. I really do hope you find it useful.

And what would that be?
That the leg bags look enormously gay, that's all.
-
They’ve had ads on facial book for some time. I wouldn’t wear that to a dog fight.

This is why I got one, didn’t think I could mention Glock here anymore? Easy access WHILE I’m riding. Is that manly enough for you tough guys?
-
You didn't get the one with the skulls and spikes on it???

I have seen some backpacks that lock to you body quite securely, have a lot of padding to protect your body and ride low enough to actually rest the majority of their weight on the seat behind you (if you're riding a sport bike with a bump up to the passenger seat). I tried one that one of my kids friends had. Short 10 mile ride around curvy access roads but could hardly tell it was there. I think it was Alpinestars, but can't say for sure now. Actually came across as well designed and very functional. I thought about getting one but the price threw me off. IIRC couple hundred dollars.
I'm more of a lockable top box on the bike kind of guy.
-
I'm going to stick with my milk crate.

Got one for my wife last season... it can be a purse, or she can pull the leg straps out and lash it to her leg for riding.
Best part of hers is all the pockets zip close then use snaps to secure the zippers... she hasn't lost anything out of it to date.

It's like no one has heard of a tank bag.
And in fact, they probably haven't. I've been riding with tank bags for 20 years and have three of them. I remember a few years ago parking with a group of Harleys and pulling something out of my tank bag. Those riders had never seen a tank bag before and thought it was an amazing invention.
Now that I write this, I've can't remember seeing a tank bag on a Harley or seeing one in the Motor Company's accessory catalog.

Tank bags are about as handy as it gets. I haven't strapped one on the Cal-Vin yet, but I will soon.

Many Harleys have that wide chrome trim up the tank, or have the ignition turn-thingy right in the middle of the tank, on the top. Or both.
Our Heritage Softail is like that. So was several of our other Harleys - and one of our Yamaha motorcycles

If I travel more than 100 miles, I'll take along a tank bag with a map pouch attachment. Although I have good sized saddlebags, I still find a tank bag useful for things to keep handy. I used to have a large collection of tank bags, but started selling them off with the bikes. Now, I rely on Chase Harper bags. They have a couple of models that work well with wide tanks (it fits well with my 1400 California Touring).

Great idea! They should make 3 Legged Jeans too!

Not real happy with the leg bag I ordered. Too many zipper and not enough room.. buyer beware they have a 48 hour return policy, I'm still trying to return it.
-
Ever since I've made fun of a "murse", I've found myself going places w a iPhone, a wallet, eyeglasses, prescriptions, keys all held in a baseball cap...hat in hand, so to speak....
-
They will take my return after 48 hours no problem but charge a 15% restocking fee.
-
How about a tank 'wallet'? I've used one for a couple of years and it's perfect for carrying your wallet, phone, keys, etc. Can be mounted with straps or magnetically. I have larger tank bags for when the need arises, but this wallet is perfect for general daily use.

I used to use them when I was riding cruiser
Because my bag's buckle was just slightly toward my crouch area, the buckle was not touching the tank when riding on my cruiser.
however, when I was riding the V7, that buckle was constantly rubbing the tank and actually scratched thru my clear coat before I realized it. :thewife:
What I am trying to say is, the bag is handy (pun intended) but beware of the belt buckle depends on the make.

When I had to carry stuff around I used to carry a small Dakine backpack. However, since breaking my collarbone back in '05, a strap is uncomfortable on the left side so I now use a sling bag over my right shoulder. After a good long time in the security business, I've had it with carrying heavy stuff on my belt or pants pockets. The sling pack has room for a bottle of water, a raincoat, notepad, pen, multi-tool, flashlight, hat, and phone. Plus, a few compartments for things I pick up along the way.
On the other hand, I have always used tank bags when I travel. Usually just a small one for water, snacks, phone, etc. The location is perfect and my fueling protocol is well-practiced.

WOW that bag with a set of red suspenders, what a fashion statement! Should get you an ass kickin' at just about any "biker" bar

I'll not forget being robbed of my tank bag while checking out of a friends house. The bike was ~100' into his driveway, 12' walls on 3 sides. I was in and out in perhaps less than 5 minutes.
Saved by the kindness and foresight of my 'other' ATF friend. He re-generated my license on the inet and gave me 900 bux. I had met him 3 days prior.
Tucson to Boston - back to back Bun Burners, with a few hours of loving and rehab in MO.
