When is enough enough when it comes to motorcycle attire? The other day while surfing the Facebook Market Place, I ran across an ole school leather motorcycle jacket. It was an “Excelled”brand, an old American company who is actually still in business in America. I did some research and the company office is in NY.
The jacket in the advertisement is an older jacket in great shape and the guy was only asking 50 bucks and my research revealed these jackets sells in the 500 and up to 900 dollar price tag! I figured what the heck I would at least go give it a look since I was bored anyway.
The jacket was in great shape, supple leather, good zippers and signs of minimal wear.
You can’t have too many motorcycle jackets so I added another one to my collection. My problem now u have a complex decision as to which one to wear on what occasion. 👍
Oh yea and the Guzzi content is that I’m going to put the jackets on and ride my Stone:)

That’s interesting. I found the company online but could not locate a store anywhere in the US nor any price guide information. There was one like this one on eBay advertised for 900 bucks!!! Is that possible?

You can never have enough leather jackets. I have a couple of horsehide jackets and went down in my Hillside leather horsehide on the Eldo and hardly a scratch! But what I really like is Lost World's jackets out of New York.

The black and white one is designed for a kidney belt. My Schott is 35 years old and an actual CHP motor officer model which was designed exclusively for the CHP. It has a built in kidney brace in the back. It’s really heavy, to heavy to use unless on a long ride. About the only way to stirs it when not in use is to strap it on the back of the bike somehow.

Tell me Dan, are you partial to black leather jackets?

I have sold as many jackets as I currently own.  I have 12' of closet space dedicated to riding gear.  I only have one plain black leather jacket and it is perforated leather.

Actually TWA I’m really not, it just seems that’s about all that’s comes available for me. I would love to find a good quality US made riding leather jacket in brown but the price tag would be in the hundreds. And probably unconsciously I may lean towards black nuff because of my era, I’m 68, black was just the norm for motorcycle style jackets as was the slant breasted style.

Understandable.  I was one of those Florida riders who only wore a jacket or FF helmet or gloves or shoes because of cold weather.

I did own a 1960s mandarin collar leather jacket bought in the early 80s that I had to manually resew all the seams due to dry rot.  Lost it in a house fire in 2003.

Ncdan, look at Hillside leather out of Florida. American made, lifetime warranty. They have horsehide but also cowhide at less cost and they have them in brown. They have 15% off right now.

Hi Mark,

I'm gonna bet it would be a little tight, I was a good 20lbs. lighter and an inch or so taller back then.  I rummaged through the closet to take a pic & post but didn't have the guts to see if it still fit.

I used to have 4 or 5 leather jackets, from cruiser style to sport bike jackets with back protectors.  They all started to shrink on me about five years ago, so one by one I sold or tossed them.  I'm down to just one leather jacket among my gear.  A nice First Gear "Brando" style jacket, and it's getting pretty snug.  Although I prefer leather gear, I've made the switch over to textiles.  Much cheaper, and I got tired of ordering a leather jacket on-line only to find out it would inevitable be too small.  I did pretty well I guess, wore the same size up until I hit 60, the last five years my body shape has changed...everythin g's "gone downhill" so to speak.  One of my rider friends of the same vintage called it, "getting an old man's body."  Now that's down-right depressing.

I've got a Hein Gericke of similar design to your Excelled.  It is very heavy leather.  Great jacket, but no pads, so I don't wear it anymore.

I just wanted to let you all know I deleted that post. I was totally joking, but apparently intent doesn't matter much these days. I am sorry if anyone was really offended, but I'm guessing there were at least a couple of you that realized I meant no harm.

Have about 6 or 7 motorcycle jackets now, including the first one I used in '89 when I started riding. Different jackets for different weather and different bikes.
The last one I bought was a nice brown Roland Sands off FB market place for $115. New it was $600.
