Considering adding one of these to the stable. Is '23 the first year for this engine in the Mandello? The only thing I've seen that's an issue is with some kind of alternator seal, causes a very slight oil leak down the right side of the back of the engine? Fixable under warranty of course, but wondering how prevalent an issue it is? I love this limited edition bike, being somewhat of a "tribute" bike to Carlo Guzzi's time in the Italian Navy's Aviation unit in WWI. The gray paint, roundel insignia at the back of the tank, and the wolf's head decal at the back are all a tribute to the Navy's F-35Bs.
'Course I love a bunch of other things about this bike too, like the adjustable windscreen and side vents, cruise control, TPMS sensors, single-sided swingarm, nice TFT display, throttle by wire, integrated riding modes, side exhaust ports, etc. Would make a nice step-cousin to the V7...

Why don't you already have this bike in the garage? Life is too short to worry about nit picky things.
I really like the look of that bike also. Both of my Moto Guzzis are limited editions.
But, I am still trying to avoid liquid cooled bikes as much as possible.
-
Yes, 2023 was the first year for the V100.
Buy it and don't worry.

There have been some relatively easy fix recalls of mostly minor in nature. Matt, the NM Rep has one and have met a couple of others in the area that now have them. I have asked and all have said outside of the recalls they have had no assembly or other issues with there bikes and all love them. Plug and play so far.

When you buy a new one, you get a warranty but not a guarantee…

There was one at the Kentucky rally last year, and I thought I looked good on it. Then I had an attack of common sense and realized the AeroLario would see me out.

For just $500 more you can get the S version which has the nice ohlins suspension and two tone paint job. Much better value in my opinion. But to each his own.

Manufacturers always frustrate me with their choices. Car manufacturers I have looked at won't provide adjustable lumbar support until you upgrade to leather seating.
Motorcycle manufacturers don't offer enough colors and or the color in the features I want.
Even Harley who offers the most colors for each model and also offers blacked out or chrome choses one color that they will only offer in chrome and another they will only offer in blacked out.
Moto Guzzi should have offered all colors in the S, and made the special edition an S model.
-
I have a Navale, it is the model that really caught my attention. I don't really care if it is a special edition or not but the reasons for it are kind of cool. It has all the features of the 'S' except for the suspension. Mine rides a bit stiffly but with all my camping gear loaded on it gets quite smooth. I haven't tried adjusting the dampening yet, I wanted to get some mileage on it first to get everything broken in. I have only 3,500 miles on it so far. The poor V7lll has really taken a back seat.

I put a deposit down on a '24 Navale from the same dealer where I got my '23 V7 SE. Total discounts were $2800, so I went ahead and ordered the Mistral slip-on muffler from AF1 as well. I'm a sucker for a Guzzi tribute bike like this, which is why I got it over a green and black V100 S. I work in foreign military sales for the USAF, and Italy was one of the original partner nations for the F-35, so I like that link to this bike, in addition to all the Carlo Guzzi and naval aviation ties as well.
-
I understand the sentiment for the tribute/special edition bikes. I just can't get past the battleship grey paint. On cars or trucks either.
-
I like the grey. And it’s one of those colors that doesn’t show dirt. I got a ‘24 Honda Odyssey that is grey blue with black trim and it always looks clean. I should have a matching Guzzi…

Yes, you should! I had a Shelby GT350 for a while, had a Sportster 883R with a 1450 kit in it at the same time. Bought some extra parts and had the Sportster painted to match the Shelby, down to the same black for the wheels and red for the calipers...

" The only thing I've seen that's an issue is with some kind of alternator seal, causes a very slight oil leak down the right side of the back of the engine? Fixable under warranty of course, but wondering how prevalent an issue it is? "
I followed all the usual forums for a year or so before buying mine. I read a few reports of bikes that had improperly crimped radiator hose clamps and had minor coolant leaks. Apparently not easy to get to to replace.
Also, there were recalls or "service campaigns" on some of the "non-S" V100's that had the rear shock improperly installed, and another one to replace the clutch actuator seals.
Other than some random one off's, II haven't heard of any endemic problems with the V100's. :thumb:

I did see a YT video about a coolant leak, and one about a rear shock bushing. Those bikes must've been made on a Monday! Hasn't scared me off though, I should be picking up the bike tomorrow.

Awesome, enjoy!
Did your dealer have any '24 v85's? Just curious.

Trailered the bike home today...pictures don't do the V100 any justice, it's a beautiful bike! I have a set of Hella dual disc horns and engine guards to put on, and should have a Mistral slip-on muffler by the time I get around to installing those things (going out of town for the next 5 days). Heck, I haven't even started the bike yet! Looks like we're going to get some rain, got it inside my storage unit and returned the trailer just in time...

According to Piaggio, there are no US-Market 2024 V85TT....they will be sold here as 2025 MY, supposedly arriving in August.

Found this pic of the first Italian F-35B, highlighted several items that are on the Aviazione Navale. Guzzi got this one right!

MG must be monitoring the left over situation much more closely than they did 20 years ago when brand new 3 year old bikes were not rare. Better for dealers not to be carrying new/old bikes for such a long time.

More tinkering...removed the rear passenger grab handles, will fill those holes with something. I didn't like how were sort of hanging out back, like the engines on the Star Trek Enterprise.
(https://i.ibb.co/0nLVfjT/Grab-handles-20240714a.jpg) (https://ibb.co/0nLVfjT)
Also was able to remove the dB killer on a Mistral slip-on muffler I ordered. Needed one of those torx security bits (T25), and had to use a small 1/4" wrench to turn the bit due to limited space, but it's off now, and ready for the Ago headers and y-pipe.
(https://i.ibb.co/y8Fppsz/Mistral-muffler-20240715b.jpg) (https://ibb.co/y8Fppsz)
When I was removing the OEM exhaust system, I remembered reading where some folks bottomed out the catalytic converter support bolt. There is definitely a gap on that bolt, and depending on how everything lines up (or not) with the Ago y-pipe, might have to visit my local hardware store and get a rubber grommet, spacers, washers, and a shorter M8 allen head bolt.
(https://i.ibb.co/BsNqrXc/Cat-support-bolt-20240715a1.jpg) (https://ibb.co/BsNqrXc)
Was able to remove the heat shields, O2 sensors, and exhaust stud bolts, and off she came as a 1-piece unit. Pretty impressive, minimizes the amount of hardware you'd need to connect the downpipes to the cat, and so on. Since the Ago kit has two header pipes and a y-pipe, I'm expecting the installation of those parts to go pretty smoothly, I jus have to remember to twist the O2 sensor wires so when I tighten them they unwind.

I'm following your exhaust journey with interest.
Although I must say that the V100 is the first new Guzzi I have ever owned that is absolutely spot on from the factory. It fuels so flawlessly and sounds so good box stock I would not want to touch a thing for fear it might never be this perfect again.

I was thinking of doing an exhaust comparison with the stock exhaust / Mistral muffler with and without the dB killer installed / Ago headers + y-pipe with the Mistral muffler with and without dB killers, but that's as far as I got with that thought. When I picked up my '23 V7, I had the dealer install the Ago mufflers + open airbox mod + UPMAP tune, so I had no idea what it sounded like stock or how it rode, just figured those things would definitely make it sound better and perform better than stock. I haven't even started the V100 yet, so nothing to compare it to in that respect either, other than what I've watched on YouTube. I should have the Ago headers and y-pipe today, so I'm hoping to have a fully functional exhaust system on the bike in the next day or two. I'll make a video once it's done, and post a link. From my experience with the Agos on my V7, it seems to me that Agostini is to Guzzi what Termignoni is to Ducati, they just sound so good together!
-
Are you planning on re-mapping the ECU for the new exhaust, if so how ?? Or do you think the ECU will trim to the new exhaust ?
I'm with Mr. Swanson on this one, I'd be afraid to customize the exhaust... Curious to hear about your results and hopefully good !
-
Mine runs perfectly, I am not touching a thing. My V7lll will stumble when starting when it is extremely hot and only under certain circumstances and only does it once. I am not touching it either even though I am pretty sure how to cure it. My 1400 had issues but MG seems to have figured everything out on newer models.

I dunno…
There’s an elephant in the room and for me it’s the underdone front fairing, you can put a barn door transparent screen onto what’s already there, but the visual balance is slightly askew.
Looks like a 600 screen on a 1000 bike.
I’ll bet the next incarnations have larger ones.

I put the Ago pipes and the uncorked Mistral muffler on yesterday, and this setup is LOUD. I'll get a new allen head bolt and put the dB killer back in, and see if that tones it down a bit. I don't have any immediate plans to change the map, depends on how the bike runs (I still haven't ridden it yet). When I put the full-length uncorked Ago mufflers on my V7 Special Edition, I had an UPMAP tune installed at the same time. Even though the SE came with Arrow mufflers, they were still too quiet for my liking, so I went with the uncorked reverse cone Agos, and it sounds like a proper Guzzi now. Sound and exhaust looks are very subjective, and from videos I've seen on the stock V100, it's too quiet, and I'm not a fan of the OEM muffler either.

I think there are larger aftermarket screens for the bike (at least on AF1's website), and when raised, should give more protection than the OEM screen. Even though this bike is supposed to be a "sport-tourer", I'm not into touring at all, so the smaller sport-oriented windscreen works and looks appropriate to me.
-
I went a bit of a different way. After trying a little bit taller screen I found that turbulence was still there. Not really buffeting but was still bothersome to me. I tried the bike with no screen at all. Very clean air but still took the wind pressure off my chest. I then made a cover for the front of the body work. The shield raising and lowering mechanism had to be removed. I also went with bar end mirrors to help with clean air. I am very happy with the bike I can ride for hours with little discomfort. My only soreness is my in my legs due to the higher pegs. More of an age issue than anything else.

Forgot to post these pics after I installed them...I'll try and get a video of the system with the Mistral uncorked (like it is now) and corked...
I wiped everything down with some non-chlorinated brake cleaner, to remove any prints from me handling the pipes, before I started it up.

Will replace this long bolt and spacers with a shorter bolt and a washer. Also, why didn't Guzzi put a sight window for the oil level?!
(https://i.ibb.co/wdDMWqk/Exhaust-20240716b1.jpg) (https://ibb.co/wdDMWqk)
It was easier to mount the muffler on the front side of the footpeg bracket, instead of on the back side.

Bronzestar,
Welcome to the Wild Goose Chase............. Looks like this is not your first Guzzi, but also have a 2023 V7. I normally say we all look forward to seeing what your second will be, but you are already there, so here's to #3.
The Navale is a beautiful bike and very tempting. I am holding off on going with a water Cooled Guzzi, but am thrilled to see they are keeping the brand alive and current, if not very competitive. I'm renting a V100 for 1/2 a day this summer from Agostini in Mandello DeLario. I wanted to rent a Stelvio, but none were available.
I'm adding a Norge back into the mix this summer, and will return the 1200 Sport back to non touring livery. The V100 seems to me to be the successor for the 1200 Sport. Very similar in most dimensions other than the Breva based fat boy tank....
Look forward to seeing pics of the bike with enough standoff to see how the new can and pipes look. A few comments.
1. Interesting that Guzzi made the headers and cat as one piece. That would be one of the first things I would do though I like the look of the Stock can. I think Guzzi did the same with the new V85, in order to dump the cat, you have to replace the headers. Euro standards indeed. Thank you Agostini and take that enviro-weenies.....
2. For the air cooled bikes at least, MOST will tell you that removing the DB reducer may 'sound' faster, but will normally rob the bike of low-mid power and response and they are right. This has held true for me on my: Norge, 1200 Sport, Griso and V7 Stornello. KEEP IT IN............. Same for the airbox, use a STOCK paper filter. The 'open airbox and intake' is NOT a thing on these Vtwins. Of course, it's your bike, and the V100 is a new animal so YMMV. As you noted for your V7, upmap is the way to change map. You will likely be able to get away with the stock map if you keep the DBR in.
3. Moto Richmond is a great dealer. Cool sales staff, and responsive / solid techs. LaMoto in Arlington is a joke for all things Guzzi, best to stay away if you value your wallet.

Yeah, I think the design of the headers and cat as one single unit is a Euro-5 thing, makes it much more difficult to remove the cat. The Ago headers supposedly are 10mm larger in diameter, and along with their y-pipe, were super simple to install. I removed the dB killers on my V7 more for sound than anything else. From videos that I've seen, to get the sound I wanted, the dB killers had to go. I looked at the open airbox lid thing on the V7, and it looks like it has a DNA air filter. I had a DNA filter on an '18 Triumph Street Twin I used to have, so not an entirely unknown brand to me. I'll stay away from the typical oiled-gauze air filters on these bikes, and stick with OEM-style paper ones. I'll see what the V100 sounds like with the dB killer back in, and will probably run it that way. It was surprisingly loud to me with it out. I got both the V7 and V100 from Chelsea up at Moto Richmond. She worked out an $1800 discount on the '23 V7 Special Edition, and a $2800 discount on the '24 V100, so I'm sold on her dealership. Good to know about LaMoto, since they're one of the three closest Guzzi dealers to me (plus Moto Richmond and there's a place in Charlotte).

It is fun to experiment with things. I've tried DBR in and out and as was predicted by Beetle & Roper, the midrange felt a bit flat. WOT and redline may have gotten a bit better, but the fun in a Guzzi motor is the 3500-6500 range. I bet the larger diameter headers, & pipe and Mistral will sound fantastic. I have a Mistral on my Stornello and 1200 Sport (both ovals), and an Agostini Hydroformed on the Griso. The Mistral makes a nice burbly rumble, and the Agostini tends to be a bit more 'bark'.
I'll be back in Virginia this summer/fall, and plan a visit down to Moto Richmond. LaMoto is a mess. They sell a ton of scooters to the DC and Arlington crowd, and the owner owns the building which is right next to his used car dealership. They also sell the other "Brands" like Aprilia along side the Guzzi. I have been stationed in and out of the DC area since 2005, and never heard of the dealership in Arlington until 2018. They have sold a ton of V7's to the latte skinny jean sippers of NOVA. But I am being a grumudgen. They just don't appeal to my demographic.
I took my Griso rims and new tires for them to mount, they wanted $100 per wheel, took them 4 days to give me an answer, and the Tech was all flustered that I didn't bring them the whole bike. I walked around their shop and rear storage area and talked to the 1-2 techs who didn't have a clue.
Looking forward to hearing your reflections once you have 1-2K miles under it.
-
I've had Ago's on both of my 1400s. With the DB out, it is earsplitting. With them in, it is perfect and runs very well. No bad effects on the throttle quality of response. It's very subjective I know, so everyone should at least try it. It is easy to put them back in with Ago.

Well, if that was in support of my post then we are in agreeance.

Got the big bore Agostini headers (+10mm bigger diameter than stock) and y-pipe installed, along with a Mistral muffler. Got all these parts from AF1 Racing in TX. Took these sound clips earlier today, one with the dB killer out, the other with it in. I'm keeping it in, sounds better to me.

Installed the Guzzi head guards. They were less expensive than the ones from H-B and Givi, design "flows" with the bike pretty well, VERY simple to install. Also installed a tinted windscreen, but didn't take any pics of it on the bike. It's at the front of my storage unit, with the Lancia behind it, and I didn't feel like playing musical chairs to roll it out. The screen came with all new hardware, so that was a plus. Might take it out for its first ride either late Fri afternoon, or sometime on Sun, will take a pic then...

Figured I'd post some initial riding impressions. Bike has about 175 miles on it now, and I'm hoping the transmission gets smoother by the 900 mile break-in service. It's clunkier than the trans on my '23 V7 Special Edition, that's for sure. When at a stop in neutral, shifting it into first makes the bike lurch a little bit, with a definite "clunk" sound. Also, it seems like the friction point on the clutch is pretty much as far out on the lever as it can be, i.e. just pulling it in ever so slightly is enough, especially on downshifts. Not used to that yet, so time will tell. The adjustable shield works best at its lowest position, because raising it makes things noticeably louder up at the helmet. I replaced the clear US-spec shield with a Euro-spec tinted one, which I think is a little bigger, so that might have something to do with it? I normally ride the bike in "road" mode, tried "sport" mode the other day. Definitely has a crisper throttle response, and it's easier to put the bike in neutral than when it's in "road" mode (weird, but it happened). Sport mode would be annoying in stop and go traffic, so I'm going to keep it in "road" mode most of the time. Rev limiter light comes on at 6K rpms during the break-in period, so I've been taking it easy on the twisty curvy roads, but it handles very well. It's composed, smooth, stable, and transitions easily from side to side. Will eventually invest in an UPMAP tune, probably within the next few months. Coloring on the Ago headers would indicate it's running a little lean, in addition to the pops on deceleration, so the tune should take care of those two issues.
Recent riding video. I was using a GoPro-style camera mounted on the chin of the helmet, with an external mike inside the helmet: https://youtu.be/XfSsmkvXrMc
For comparison purposes, this is the same road on a 2007 BMW K1200S I used to have: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ9qTwtrccQ

Rev limiter light comes on at 6K rpms during the break-in period, so I've been taking it easy on the twisty curvy roads, but it's handles very well. Will eventually invest in an UPMAP tune, probably within the next few months. Coloring on the Ago headers would indicate it's running a little lean, in addition to the pops on deceleration, so the tune should take care of those two issues.

I don't know how you could ride only 175 miles in two months. When I get a new bike I am so enthralled with it that I hit the first service mileage within a couple weeks. All the other bikes are moved to the back burner until I get through that first service.
I'm not ragging on you, I just don't understand it. But, I'm the one with the addiction so I'm sure it is me that is weird when it comes to bikes.

I keep the V100 and Aprilia in a storage unit that's a few miles from where I live in VA (don't have a garage), and they share the space with a 1981 Lancia Zagato. So if I want to ride one of the bikes, I have to uncover the Lancia, pull it out, uncover and unlock the bike, pull it out, then put the Lancia back in. It's a hassle, but it keeps them inside out of the elements, and away from prying eyes ("out of sight, out of mind"). The weather's been too hot to ride for quite a while, but it's finally cooling down to where I'm comfortable. The V7 is down at my house in North Carolina, which I get to about every other weekend, so that one's going to take a while to get it's break-in service as well. I think I got that bike back in Apr, I rode it this past Sunday, and it has about 450 miles on it. Work, the weather, and other projects (the Lancia, '05 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro convertible) just doesn't give me enough hours in a day to get that much riding in (for now).

Mighty good-looking bike! I like your mods... :thumb:

Thanks for this great post! I'm curious if you had an option for a 23 V100 Aviazione Navale as well as the 24? There is a new 23 nearby me that is being offered at 12,995, which seems like a good value. I'm trying to determine if there are any major difference between the 23 and 24. (I haven't read of any significant design changes.) I don't think the dealer sells many MG's so it's been sitting for a while.
Also, your riding video was great! Any chance you could do a video walkaround showing your mods? I'm especially interested in seeing the head guards that you installed from different angles.
Thanks again!

$13K is a great price for a "new" Aviazione Navale. I'm not sure if there are any significant changes between a '23 and '24, other than the '23 being the first year the V100 was offered, so possible teething problems associated with being the first? I don't have a walk-around video of my V100, I'll have to take one. I'll post a few pics that show the head guards, and maybe a couple of others...

I believe I know which dealer you are mentioning. Check their additional fees, they are pretty good at making up the difference from the reduced price. The finance/closer messed up the paperwork on my Audace so badly that it took three months to get the registration finished but I would guess he is long gone.

Thank you for the tip. I received a cash purchase written quote that seemed pretty straightforward with no additional fees, but I'm going to review it again! Thank you!

Sold the 20108 Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 last week, so only the V100 is with me here in VA. Hopefully I'll be able to put more miles on it than what I've done over the last three+ months. Bought it back in early July, took it out for a ride today, got it to around 250 miles now, only 650 miles more to go before the first service! I tested the adjustable windscreen again today, and it's definitely quieter in the lowest position, at least for me. I have to say the OEM seat is pretty comfortable, probably one of the best ones I've sat on over the last 40 years of riding bikes.

This was helpful thank you! I'd seen the model and wondered what the other decals were. Mystery solved.
